Noob here
So I just found out about this forum from google. Wanted to know how to lucid dream for a while now. I don't think this forum has been around for a long time since last summer i tried looking for one.
Anyways, about me, I don't really remember my dreams after I wake up. On rare occasions, I do, but most of the time, I just don't. I guess it started happening from when I was a kid, I used to have vivid dreams sometimes. But as I started growing older (im 21 atm), I just started to get careless towards dreams. Right now, I only remember one dream every couple of months. The thing is that alot of times when I do remember the dream, I actually know that I'm dreaming, which is what wakes me up.
I have tried to keep a dream journal, but it's empty sitting on my side table. I just don't remember the dream by the time I wake up and look at my phone.
My objective for joining this forum is to gain more control over remembering my dreams. More self-control over the dreams would also be a big plus.

Hi there =) I'm Castles. The first step in dream-recall is to basically.. want to. If you tell yourself you are going to remember your dreams at night you most likely will. Go to bed normally. Not too tired. Not too early (can you go to bed too early LOL) You can also try taking a spoon full of peanut butter before bed. Supposedly it's supposed to help with dream recall. I was blessed with extremely vivid dream recall so I haven't tested this :p. Orange juice reportedly works too! Even if you remember just fragments, immediately write them in your DV as soon as you wake up. You need to maintain this habit in order to recall your dreams easier. After a while you'll get to a point where you won't even need to, although it is fun :p.
If you have any questions feel free to send me a personal message.

Welcome to Dreamviews iamking! The forum has in fact been around longer than since last summer, ir was created in 2003. Anyways, the key to dream journaling is diligence. Especially in the beginning it is important to wright down as much as you can even if it seems in significant. You have to get the ball rolling somewhere. After that you just have to keep it rolling. Good luck with your dream adventure. We are all here to help.

Welcome iamking :)
Couple of things can help with recall.
1. Write in your dream journal, even if all you can remember is just a single word or feeling. If you don't remember anything at all, write that in your DJ and also write some kind of affirmation - like 'I remember my dreams', 'I'm getting better at it every day', 'I like my dreams'. This will tell your mind, that dreaming and remembering your dreams is important to you and will help you achieve it. When you remember something, say thanks to your mind for your dream and for remembering it.
2. You can say these affirmations/mantra also when you falling asleep - in that state between awake and asleep our minds are very receptive to suggestions. You can also say 'I wake up after each dream and I remember it'. This will help you wake up after your dream is over, couple of times at night. We already wake up after REM (dreaming) cycle is over, just don't always realize it. It also helps if you drink some water before bed and each time you wake up - it will help you wake up naturally. Happy dreams:)

A big part of remembering your dreams is setting your intention to do so. You can't rely on your groggy brain first thing in the morning. Instead, set your intention as you go to bed at night. Tell yourself you will remember your dreams and write them down. Imagine yourself doing it. Picture yourself writing in your journal. Sometimes it even helps to write a note in your journal at night stating your intentions.
