Introduction/Dreaming Experiences

Hello DV, I have wanted to lucid dream for a long time and only recently have begun to try it, I looked at these forums a little bit but some of the methods people suggested seemed too difficult. Although, I was the closest i've ever come to attaining it last night. Everytime i'm in a dream, i say the same thing.. "I'm dreaming" Then i feel a shock coming down my whole body starting from my head to my toes and it wakes me up.. I was so close last night and I said those words twice, but both times I woke up from it. When i said the words i usually say everyone in the room with me starting floating up but that crazy feeling i get everytime when i know i'm close wakes me up! Maybe it might take some more times for my body to get used to the feeling? It was awesome though, I almost felt like i was in inception last night, I had so much control over my dreams that it was like living in another world.

In my own experience with Lucid Dreaming, I would always wake at this key moment because it was a new and exciting happening. For me, the best way to combat this was to keep myself from becoming overly excited at becoming lucid. (Which as you know is much easier said than done!) I would suggest maybe saying not only "I am Dreaming", but maybe something like "I am dreaming, and am calm". Do whatever you can to keep yourself relaxed and in control.

The other thing that may help you combat this problem is something that just happens with time. As you spend more time on this website, and spend more time thinking about lucid dreaming, and more time trying to become lucid, it will slowly become a bigger and more natural part of you. Because of this, your body may just stop waking you up naturally.

There is also a technique called spinning that is supposed to restore and stabilize your dream, however I am not very knowledgeable in that area, but would recommend talking to someone about anyways, because it is my understanding that it works very well! I just know that in its most basic sense, it involves spinning your dream body around, but I am not sure of any details.

The techniques aren't that hard, it's just that you have to practice them for a while for them to take effect. Just stick with one and raise your recall and awareness and you'll be fine :)

Congratulations on the short lucids! Waking up right away is common for people just starting out. You just need to learn to stabilize the dream. You can find a tutorial on how to stabilize a dream here. Like Matte said, I don't think the methods here are really that complex. If you don't want to spend much time working on getting lucid I would recommend using the MILD technique. It requires less work. You can find a great MILD tutorial here. Good luck!
