An aspiring, teen lucid dreamer. I've had quite a few lucid dreams throughout my life, experienced many bouts of sleep paralysis, maybe even had an OBE, but it was very recently (about two or three weeks ago) that a friend had unintentionally gotten me into all of this, and even more recently, maybe about a week ago, that I started getting more and more interested in lucid dreaming. Since my growing interest has begun, I've had one lucid dream. Planning on even greater future experiences with the help of Dream Views and its forum. Hope my presence isn't too much of a disturbance.

Welcome to Dream Views! We're glad to have you. I'm the same age as you, so I'm able to relate. The forum is always open for questions, with always people to answer. I'm the same way, having a few Lucids.

If you're starting out I suggest MILDs/DILDs. When you feel a bit more comfortable I suggest trying a WILD. Go ahead and click DV Tutorials - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views. You can find tutorials for those styles of dreaming to your liking. Remember to ask questions.

MILD/DILD= for Newer Lucid Dreamers. Lower Clarity, bit less stable.
WILD= a bit more advanced, can be extremely realistic. Some people report pretty clear, some say realer than life.

Thank you guys for the welcome. And thanks for the advice, SilverJay; I've already done a little research on the techniques. I've realized I've unintentionally triggered DEILDs before, so I know what to feel and what to expect when the time comes to intentionally try out the prolonged WILD. When I think about it, I would actually find it a little easier to achieve than DILDs, as I am horrible at dream recall and recognition. If I ever have a DILD, it seems to occur spontaneously. WILDs seem to require patience and dedication, as well as levelheadedness during sleep paralysis and a good understanding of it. There's more control and preciseness when it comes to WILDs, the outcome is more or less in my hands; I prefer that over the random DILD experiences.

That's basically the same for me. I'm Attempting my first WILD tonight, and I feel that I will be able to do this pretty easily. Happy Dreaming with DV!

I'd like to note that this isn't true for all dreamers. Some are very good at DILDs, especially natural lucid dreamers - their DILDs may be much higher quality than their WILDs.

On the subject of DILDs, do any you know of any effective tips that can help with my dream recognition? Reality checks don't seem to work for me, as incredibly strange, out-of-place scenarios always occur. They wouldn't be a reason for me to check if I am dreaming or not. Whatever goes on in my dream, I go along with. Do all people face this problem when they first start attempting DILDs? If so, how does one begin to recognize the occurrences as out of the ordinary, enough for them to preform a reality check? Does a dream journal help with this?

Awareness is an absolutely must. Without awareness, you probably wouldn't realise that you should reality check. The problem about the relation of waking life and dreaming and i'm sure you've heard this, is that what we do in waking life is reflected within our dreams. This, likewise goes for reality checks. If you do not question your reality, question that 'this could possibly be a dream,' your reality checks just won't happen. Because we accept our reality in waking life, we do the same for dreams.
As for the dream journal, you can try and dream journal consistently with as much detail as you can remember within your dreams i.e. lighting, room colour (everything) and try to pick our recurring elements of your dreams, dream signs. Once you recognise your dream signs, question your reality whenever you see them in waking life. :)

As long as you do it consistently enough, yeah!
