I had my first LD last night.....

Ive been interested in LDing for a while now. I saw a picture on tumblr and have been attempting and researching ever since. I usually don remember my dreams an I haven't started a dream journal yet.
Well anyways, I had my first Lucid dream today. Not really Last night. I was really tired so I took a nap today. I'm 13, and I've tried A bunch of different methods to accheive lucidity, but none really work. I was bored today so I began researching how to get lucid, and I came across a way. I said, whatever, and tried it during my nap. What you do is you lay on your back with your hands either straight to your sides or crossed on your chest, and then you close your eyes. In your head, you say '1, I will have a dream. 2, I will have a dream. 3, I will have a dream... Etc' Your supposed to get kinda itchy and twitchy and want to move but your not supposed to. Well I got up into the 90's counting like that, then I couldn't remember what number I was on. Then my dream started. I don't remember it well (I did when I woke up from it) But all I know is that it was in all these places, hereshey park, the church I go to, a town that is next to the town I live in, a staples.... It was weird. I didn't have much control. I controlled what I was doing, but nothing else. Not where I was of who I was with. I was trying to find someone during my dream, and I count find them anywhere, too. I flew a little bit, but what was odd was when i did the nose plug reality check it failed, even though I was in a dream. Eventually, my dad started making a lot of noise and it woke me up. When I woke up, I was gross. I was all sweaty and nasty and really groggy. I have a few questions about this.
1- Is being sweaty when you wake up normal?
2- When you LD, do you get a good nights rest, too? (I have school and of I LD at night I want to know if I'll be ok for school)
3- How can I gain more controll?
4- Why couldnt I find that person

Hi! To answer your questions...

1) It depends on how exciting the dream was, just like how you may sometimes be gross after waking from a nightmare. Simply being lucid in a dream should have no effect on whether you wake up sweaty.

2) Yes, you should feel as well rested as if you were dreaming normally! I haven't woken up tired from lucid dreams once: I'm finishing up high school and never had to stop "LDing" for the reason of tiredness.

3) I'm new here so I can't refer you to anything at the moment, but my personal method is casually believing something will occur. I don't exert a lot of effort into "willing" something to happen, I am very passive about it. A little bit of mental projection also helps. If I want to accomplish something particular in my lucids, daydreaming during the day lets me solidify exactly how the event will play out.

4) Depends on what you did to try and find them in the first place. When I first started lucid dreaming, I just walked around looking for the person, but I found this took too much time, especially since I didn't have a solid visual idea of what they looked like or where they would appear. I kinda just hoped they would appear, in a sense! In real life the mentality of "hoping" won't affect whether you find the person or not, but in a dream, your mentality has a lot of power in deciding what happens. If you're not fully confident in something, it probably won't happen. So, failing in just walking around aimlessly and wasting time, I switched to finding doors and mentally projecting the person to be on the other side. This is kind of like the method I described in 3)... if you're having difficulty finding someone, or even doing anything else in the dream, it may help!

Welcome to the forum! Let's see is we can answer those questions...

1- Sweat is normal during sleep, particularly if you have your arms crossed over your chest or you are extending your shoulders together while sleeping on your side. This keeps your core heat in and close to your body. Being sweaty isn't a component of lucid dreaming but it can be, particularly if you sleep in a position that contains heat close to you.

2- I, and most others, tend to LD during a late sleep period, usually right before we would wake up anyway for our normal daily routine. This last sleep period is best for achieving lucidity so by the time you have a LD most often you have slept enough hours to be rested. This doesn't guarantee you will feel rested through out the day but chances are you will get enough sleep by the time you experience a lucid dream.

3- Try the Dream Control Tutorial in the WIKI . A lot of good material is in there. In your other thread I also mentioned the Summoning Tutorial as a good way to help you find things you want to see in a dream.

4- I don't know why you couldn't find them. I can suggest the above information will help you find him in future dreams. Expecting someone around a corner or "knowing" they will be in the next room really works.

You might also try talking to him in real life. Real life experience goes a long way with dreaming. :)
