Hey everyone!
So my name is Kevin and i have been interested in LDing for a couple months now but it wasn't until about two weeks ago that i started to seriously commit to it. So far i have started my dream journal which i update consistently. My dream recall is ok, not great. I've had a few nights where i remember like one really detailed and vivid dream along with like 2 other dreams which i only remember fragments of and I've had nights where i struggle to remember anything at all. I have not had an LD yet but I'm working on it. I tried the MILD technique but things like mantras and all the visualizations you need to do just end up keeping me awake most of the time. I decided trying to WILD and although i have not LDed with it yet, or even fully achieved SP, but i feel I'm making progress. So far the sensations I've felt while trying is after a while of laying motionless on my back and counting my breaths i begin to lose feeling in my legs and my arms or sometimes they start to tingle, like someone is tapping them with an ice cube. Then after about 40-45 minutes i start to get these hot flashes throughout my body which makes me uncomfortable and breaks my concentration and my WILD attempt, but i suppose if i can ignore these I'll be able to enter SP.
Anyways that's me, thanks for reading and sorry for the long post.

Hello Kevin, welcome to the forum. :)
You sound like you're very eager to grasp an understanding of how to induce a lucid dream, the most basic of tools that will help your subconscious to become aware of your dreams is simply talking about it, so enjoy posting and asking questions. You're also experimenting with different methodology which will also prove success, eventually; the best and most personal way to gain success is by trial and error.
As a brief suggestion, as you are struggling to use these techniques because of distractions, you can try adjusting your atmosphere. You are already training your dream re-call so in your memory the dreams will last longer, this is good because it is training the subconscious to differentiate atmospheres and eventually your dream journal alone will be the cause of you being aware of the dream. When you're tired, it is much better to get back to sleep and for you that would help with what you're trying. It sounds awkward, granted, but if you successfully time when you wake up in accordance to when your brain is used to dreaming (which is usually four hours), accessing the dream atmosphere will become a lot easier. So try waking up in the middle of the night at some point and then trying one of the techniques, you can try four hours and use trial and error from there, I guarantee you'll experience something interesting.
Again, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to Dream Views. I am glad you found us. I would suggest that you keep up the MILD work. You do not need to do a mantra any given length of time. I would do it until you wish to stop, then stop. I would also do MILD work during the day. The dream guide Gab would be happy to share ideas with you on how to get into a good (for you) MILD routine. I say this because for most people you are much more likely to get LDs from MILD than you are from WILD.
WILD sounds cool and awesome, so beginners always think "that's awesome, I will just do that and be LDing witthin a week." The truth is (in my humble opinion) that WILD is a very advanced meditation skill based on the concept of a 'trance state.' It is something you should eventually learn to do, but the failure rate for beginners is huge. Even the most advanced members normally agree that A) You must do this as a WBTB or mid day nap for there to be much chance at all. B) The only members i have ever heard brag that they WILD every day and almost never fail, are also members who seem to know very little and come across like they are just making it up. Most members who can WILD often admit that more than half the time it does not work.
So, try to learn WILD, but read up on WBTB as this is an essential tool (IMO). AND read posts by Gab and maybe even join her DVA class on MILD. MILD is an almost sure thing given time and patients, while WILD is one bad a#@ high level meditation skill, that some people will never really get. good luck on both!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I admit I'm one of those beginners who was drawn to WILD because it sounded cool and i agree that i probably gave up on MILD too easily. I'll take everything you guys said into consideration and I'll definitely check out Gab's posts and maybe even that DVA class. Thanks again for the replies!!:)
