New here.. also having weak and scary lucid dreams!

Hello everyone, to be honest I first learned about lucid dreaming on 9gag about 5 or 6 months ago and ever since then I was hooked on the idea of having my own sandbox in my head. So just like most of you, i persued this almost impossible-seeming task for a while with no success. It was really difficult up until a couple days ago!

I just came home from work and was out late the day before- I needed a nap. I laid in bed and I noticed myself falling asleep. I heard it isn't healthy to lucid dream right after you fall asleep? Well anyways while falling asleep I had my lucid dream!

It didn't last very long and in my opinion was "weak" because of a couple things. Do you know when you close your eyes and you see all that purple lookin stuff? Well that is what formed my dream. Figures kept shifting back and forth and it was quite difficult to concentrate on them. Some lady out of nowhere said "let's begin" and for some reason I got scared and I tried to think of some peaceful scenerio but to no avail. Some scary monster came right up in my face and scared my pants off. I woke up later.

The next day i tried to lucid dream again and it worked! (proud of myself) But I was so sluggish in getting out of my body I got up in my room and the corner of my room kept flashing and for some odd reason I got scared and went under my covers like a whimp and lost lucidity lol.

Apologies for the long post but I wonder if someone can help me out with why I'm having these type of experiences?

Not that it's not healthy to lucid dream before any sleep, it's just near impossible, because of the structure of sleep cycle. With one exception - and that's nap. For some reason, when you nap, you go straight to REM (dreaming part of sleep cycle). So naps are good for lucid dreaming.

Although this was a nice experience, I believe you didn't enter lucid dream, because it doesn't sound that you realized, you are dreaming. What you saw was the hypnogogic hallucinations and dreamlets, that you get before entering a dream. So you were really close. Try to keep your awareness just a little longer. Next time you see a dream - (like the lady), try to enter it by wishing you were there.

This also sounds more like HH. Or did you realize you are dreaming? Was there a big, superexciting "wow, I'm dreaming" moment?

Thanks for all your input! as for the purple dream with the lady I dont think i was asleep but the way i kept that "state of mind" or whatever you wanna call it is i kept rolling my eyes backward and every time i did that my awareness increased.

As for my second dream Yes! I knew i was dreaming and it was the most infusing feeling ever! What is HH? Sounds confusing? Also in that dream when I was getting out of my bed my room was the same except for the flashing lights, I was very slow in moving but got afraid so I fell back into sleep literally and figuratively.

One of the way to enter lucid dream via method called WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dream - when you enter LD directly from being awake, without any loss of consciousness) is by waiting for the "fog" and "swirls" behind your closed eyelids to form into objects and later into "movies/dreams". At this moment if you notice them, you are still awake, but you are already dreaming. All you have to do is to "enter" the dream.

Yup, that exhilarating feeling you get when you realize you dreaming is unmistakable. That's the best indicator of being in lucid dream. It's quite common to start your WILD in your room. When that happens, do a few reality checks and go from there. You can read explanation to why some dreams start in your room in this WILD lesson.

HH are hypnogogic hallucinations - those are the things you see as you falling asleep. They can be of all kinds of things, visual (like you saw something scary), tactile (you feel someone touching you or falling sensation) or auditory (you hear people talking, or any other sounds). Not everybody experiences HH, or they are different each time. If you search through the posts, there are some threads about hallucinations you can check out.

And you really should not worry about any of the HH. They are just that - hallucination. They can't hurt you. Just let them finish and continue to your lucid dream. Happy dreams:)

I think now its a matter of dream control. As you progress in lucid dreaming you will find you will be able to overcome those scary dreams and have fun.
