      New Lucid Dreamer

      Hey there,

I’m pleased to be on this forum. Here’s a little background of my experience with lucid dreaming as well as what I’m trying to accomplish

I only recall 2 instances when I could “lucid dream.” One instance was when I was a child and the other was when I was in high school and I am much older now.

When I was a child I had a bad dream but I somehow was able to control the dream and I ended up waking up. As for the instance in high school I think I might have somehow controlled my dream so I could have sex with my ideal partner…ironically enough the high school dream memory is not as clear as my child dream.

I just decided to take up lucid dreaming a couple days ago after reading parts of Exploring the world of Lucid Dreaming. I so far have 4 days in my journal.

      Day 1
      Recorded signs.

      Day 2
      Recorded signs

      Day 3
Attempted to do WILD for the first time, but too hard, lost focus. Took melatonin (3mg) and fish oil capsule (apparently melatonin makes dreams more vivid but I didn’t experience that but I did have better dream recall). Recorded signs. Did reality checks during the day; I did 38 checks on my hands to see if they were blurry. I also woke up about 3 hours after sleeping and did MILD. MILD didn’t work.

      Day 4 (Today)
Recorded signs. I will check my hands 60 times today.

      My questions:
      1) Are there any beginner pointers for doing WILD? If not what induction techniques would you recommend for a beginner?
      2) Do you recommend any lucid dreaming supplements besides melatonin and fish oil?
      3) How many times should I idieally check my hands? Would 100 times be good?
      4) Do you have any other pointers for MILD? I did what LaBerge said and I feel its good. Perhaps I just need to be more persistant with the MILD technique?
      5) Are there any music, software, devices, etc that can help me learn lucid dreaming faster?
      6) Any other pointers?

PS I do not feel disappointed in myself since apparently thinking lucid dreaming is hard is counterproductive.

      1) Combine your WILD with a WBTB (Take a look at the Wiki if you don't know what this is!) and it is more likely you will get a Lucid Dream
After one try, you wont get it. You have to keep practising with all the techniques and be patient then you will get one!
      2) Magnesium and B6
      3) You don't have to check them a specific number, for example just check them whenever you walk through a doorway or whenever you sit down. See what I mean?
      4) Like I said, it takes time so keep practising, it's not the fact you are doing anything wrong, its that you have only tried it once.
      5) Yes you can find them anywhere, i'm not an expert on these but if you want to find some just look through the forums and i'm sure you can find something.
      6) Be patient and keep working hard, you will get one

Hope I helped! And if you have more questions just ask

      Hey there Dreamer4127,

Thanks for welcoming me! I don't have any questions I'm merely just responding to your post. I will most certainly have questions in a couple of days once I get the time to type up my dream journal entries.

I'm not doing WILD anymore and am opting for the easier MILD technique. I've also read that RCs are best done for quality not quantity. Lastly, you've confirmed what I've been thinking the whole time which is to be patient with the process.

      Welcome to dv.
Just a quick tip, try not to do too much technique jumping, the grass always looks greener on the other side.
Find a technique or two and stick with it. Personalize it so it fits you.
      Good luck with everything!

In a lucid dream, you may have different levels of control, or no control at all. LD simply is a dream, in which you realize, you are dreaming. When LD starts as a regular dream, this moment of realization is usually accompanied by a very strong feeling of happiness and excitement.

I would not recommend melatonin for lucid dreaming at all. I have read, that even a dose as small as 0.5mg can hinder lucid dreams. As a sleep aid, 0.3 mg should be enough.

Excellent WILD class is here in DV Academy. Read the lessons, really good info. But I would recommend you start out with DILD, as in general it's easier to start with. Here is one of the tutorials for DILD and many more in DV Wiki.

      Quality over quantity

MILD is great. You have better chance, if you add DILD to it (daytime awareness, RCs and mantras).

Motivation and believing in yourself is perhaps the most important part in LDing. Happy dreams

DILD is Dream induced lucid dream not daytime awareness.

Ok, I’m only aiming to post once a week just so I don’t get too annoying..but also because I’m on other LD forums and one of them isnt that active so I don’t expect too much responses. Here’s my progress so far.

D5: Major improvement in recall. I fill up nearly 2 pages this night. During the night at one point I swear I felt my belt vibrate, which might be some kind of sign? This is one of my best nights overall.

D6: Not as good compared to D5, but I still fill up 1 page.

D7: I might have LDed this night but it may have been an illusion. I unfortunately do not have any other details on this night. Perhaps success?

      D8: 1 page of dreams

D9: Didn’t recall any dreams, maybe didn’t have any dreams?

D10: About a quarter of a page of dreams. Past 2 nights was kind of a slump

      D11: ½ page

      D12: 1 page

      D13: 1 page

D14: (Last night). About 2/3 page. Today’s plan is detailed below.

In general, during this time period I have been doing the ADA technique to increase awareness, but aside from one instance ADA has not been working for me. I might have to add that some days I am super focused to be aware, but other days I’m sloppy. Today I’m trying to increase focus by not being on the computer or TV too long so I can focus on more real world stimuli that is more apt to appear in dreams. That’s my main problem right now: Being aware that I’m dreaming. Once I can be aware I’ll figure out where to go from there.

Hi OctoberWind: I definitely understand. In retrospect WILD was too hard for me which is why I stopped that. I'm sticking to MILD and doing ADA.

Hi Gab: Thanks for your response! Like I previously said I'm not doing WILD anymore. Maybe if I get more experience, then I'll look into the technique. I am indeed doing the ADA technique with a mantra (When I am dreaming I will be aware). But like my previous post stated, I've been inconsistent with it. My weakness right now is being aware I'm dreaming. I can recall dreams fairly well. Could you get more in detail about why melatonin is bad for LD? I recall dreams just fine, maybe melatonin is bad for being aware? Please let me know.

Hi Dreamer: Thanks for your response.

I can see you sleep through your bedroom window. You're killing yourself with lucid dreaming.

      Hi Crashyy thanks for responding

      D15: Forgot

      D16: 1 page

      D17: Forgot

      D18: 1/2 page

      D19: 1/2 page

D20: Here's the money night. I won't get into too much detail but my dad was about to hit me but then I realized I was dreaming!! It took me 20 days but I finally got aware of dreaming!! I made him disappear and I then did a reality check and made my fingers longer. I was getting excited but I remembered that if I get too excited I'll lose my dream. I think it was at this point I was starting to slowly wake up. I tried to think of something fun to do but as time went on, I just woke up.
      ^^^
That was pretty cool even though I didn't fully do it. I'm looking into certain techniques such as maintaining state. At least I got a flash of LD.
