lucidity struggles
Hello,
Ive been seriously attempting to reach lucidity for over a month now and I am getting no where. I got Stephen Laberge's Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming book and I have been reading through that. I thought I should go in order of the book and try to have at least one DILD before I move on to MILD and WILD. I have also been doing serious reality checks every day. I usually do some meditation that requires me to stop and heighten my awareness; thinking about each of 5 senses one by one. I write down my dreams every day but now my dream recall is getting worse and still no lucidity...
I feel like with all this heightening of awareness etc. i should be getting at least somewhere...
what should I do?

Definetely move on to Mild. Its basically the same but your chances are hugely increased. If you dont get anything for a week from now take a three day break (still record dreams just dont intend on having a lucid one) hopefully by then you will have one. Often people try so hard it seems like there is no progress and they get a lucid when they take a break.

I don't see any reason to move on to another technique after you succeed in getting lucid with one. If you became lucid once with that technique, you would probably want to keep practicing it in order to improve it. I suggest that you try one technique over a month's time. If you get very little success by the end of that month, then you should move on to another technique. Then you should experiment with that technique for a month.
Since you seem interested in awareness you may want to read this tutorial if you haven't already. http://www.dreamviews.com/f49/all-da...gyoshi-113253/ It's a very good way to practice DILD in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice. the problem is that ever since i started i haven't had a lucid dream yet. so i dont know if DILD is the best way or not.

perhaps it is best though to take a small break

MILD is just things you can do while awake in order to increase your chance of having a DILD. By all means learn about MILD as that is where you get the modt results. Be patient, you have your whole life for this.

Time, patience, motivation, and confidence are all necessary for lucid dreaming. A small break could help a little, but I think you just need to keep trying. You can get pretty far just by not giving up.

Thank you for the replies. I will keep working at it.

As you can see by the replies above a lot of people are hoping you achieve your goal of a lucid dream.
Now...relax.
The effort itself can create stress you don't need.
The best thing you can do is relax and get some rest. Do read the book and do make the efforts while you are awake to get the concept of lucid dreaming stuck in your mind.
When it comes time to sleep...relax. The constant thought of "Will I have a lucid dream tonight?" can cause a person to fail from all the stress the effort creates.
Let sleep happen. Becuase your waking mind spends so much time thinking about lucid dreaming there is a good chance the idea will carry over into your dreams. That "Ah-Ha!" moment will be all the more amazing when you don't spend time worrying and wondering when or if it will happen.
It will.
Happy dreaming! :)

after relaxing and not trying too hard or doing many reality checks yesterday, I had my first lucid experience last night! although it was only about 3 seconds, I was still definitely lucid. I kept the subject of lucidity on my mind but I wasn't being forceful about it like i tend to be. It might have been short, but its a start!
thanks again for the advice everyone.

Congrats!
No matter how short lived it was, it was still a success! That's just a taste of what's to come if you stick with this.
Good luck and happy dreaming ^^

after my first lucid experience i started the MILD method and nothing has happened since. It seems like Im actually further away from my goal. Maybe I will take another break and see what happens...
