Hello Akadoll, welcome to the forums. We all have occasionally have dreams where we have horrifying experiences with no control. The main thing about controlling your dreams is expectation. If you expect something bad to be on the other side of the door, it will be. If you expect pink elephants to be dancing around the room with a top-hat and cane, they will be. That dream sounds quite disturbing, and I can imagine you do not wish to have one like it again.
I would advise that you practice dream control. Practice to change what you expect to happen. Believe something good will happen, something happy or funny. Or perhaps you can try spawning something happy by expecting it to be behind you when you turn around. You can change your location in a dream by doing similar things. If you learn to control them, you can always change bad experiences into pleasant ones.
Good luck!

Sometimes nightmares are the easiest dreams to remember. They are disturbing enough to make an memorable impact. I'm sure you are having good dreams, too. You just need to remember them.

Welcome to DV! Before I knew of LD, when I become lucid in nightmares, I just wake myself up cause that's all I knew.

Welcome to the forum!
As Robot_Butler said nightmares do make a strong impression on our conscious memory. They're easy to recall with the emotional rollercoaster they put you through. The trick is to know you're dreaming when nightmare occurs and then use lucidity to turn the dream into something less frightening.
You can close your eyes or walk around a corner (in the dream) and expect the dream scene to change. If you believe it will change then it probably will.
Plenty of dreams reported by people are actual lucid dreams where the person had no control over the action. People come here to learn control and achieve their goals.
