Since your join date indicate that you are completely new, I would not suggest to start with the traditional WILD technique, believe me it will only bring frustration.
However you can still do a type of WILD-technique called DEILD. All this mentioning of method and technique names might make you confused so I'll explain to you step by step what you can do. But you should still read up on them!
I have practiced for about 4 years and this is the routine that help me get better recall, more awareness of dreams, more awakenings in the night (good for chaining dreams and WBTB), and of course more regular lucid dreams.
1. Before going to bed drink two big glasses of water and fall asleep.
2. You will wake up during the night several times (We all do wake up after each dream, it's called micro-awakenings) but you will be aware of them on these awakening lay still and have closed eyes.
You will get back into the dream in seconds if lucky, if not well just fall back to sleep and enjoy the vivid dream later on. These awakenings is as many as your REM-periods so about 4-5 each night.
3. On one of the awakenings you will have to go to the bathroom since you drank that much water. This is a good timing for the traditional WILD and autosuggestion methods.
4. Keep a Dream Journal and be interested in your non-lucid dreams as well.
5. Never be frustrated of a night without lucid dreams, stay positive and look forward to the next night.
That's basically all I do. No reality checks during the day and no annoying alarm clock to wake me and the whole house up.
What I described in step 3 is called the Dream Exit Initiated Lucid Dream technique.
Good luck and sweet dreams! Ps. I can't take credit for the Water tip the member "idkwhattoput" is to thank for that ;)
And also: :welcome:
okay so so when i drink the two big glasses of water do i fall asleep normal? or try to sleep and go lucid ?
and thanks for all the help too
Your welcome I am not sure that it's the water that makes me notice my micro-awakenings that much because I have done that before. However it made me notice all of the awakenings ever since I started. You can do what ever you want actually, I sometimes fall asleep normally as soon as I go to bed, but sometimes I like to meditate and clear my mind of thoughts and memories from the day but it's just me though. I do the meditation because I see that as on of my "important" actions of the day to help me become more aware.
I started a thread about Dream recall some years ago where I wrote the stuff from my day on a note, but now I just do it in my mind as I go to sleep.
Here is the thread, it might help you too :)

What happened during your previous attempts? There are two general ways a WILD can fail. You fall asleep without noticing, or you get frustrated and give up intentionally.
Welcome to Dream Views. Make sure you read this thread, http://www.dreamviews.com/f20/beginn...eaming-124786/
I think it is best to start with MILD, and leave WILD for after you have had at least 12 LDs from MILD.
