hello! i am a new member
Hello everyone!
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Shannon and I have been lucid dreaming since I was around 5 or 6. Of course when I was younger I did not know what it was or that I was unusual. I have used the simple techique of pinching myself to see if I was dreaming or not, my dreams use to be so vivid I would sometimes pinch myself during the day to make sure I was awake.
When I got older I started looking for answers, and soon discovered my mother has been a lucid dreamer for as long as she can remember as well. I do believe lucid dreaming without even meaning to runs in families, although anyone can teach themselves how to. However I look forward to learning more from this community.
I stopped lucid dreaming for a few years while on sleeping pills as I also suffer from sleep paralysis sometimes while lucid dreaming which is not at all a pleasant experience. I am curious to see if any of you have had the same experience. When I was younger and realized I was in a dream I also use to go into panic and everyone in my dreams would start attacking me, although since then I have learned to remain calm and have pleasant experiences. I have gone off sleeping pills and started lucid dreaming again and am ready to learn more about it and embrace it instead of running away from it.
I look forward to meeting others like my mother and I and learning more from those of you who have already embraced it.
Regards,
Shannon

Hi Shannon. :welcome: to Dreamviews!
You should definitely check out melanieb's link on sleep paralysis.
Hmm that's really cool, finding out your mom is a lucid dreamer. My mom doesn't even want to listen about my dreams :S But that's alright. Lucid dreaming is so much fun, eh? I only started getting into it around 6 months ago, though I had a couple throughout my childhood. They're the most amazing things. Even better than chocolate! (Most of the time hehe :P )
Anyway, glad to have you join the community. If you have any questions, ask away! See ya :)

Thanks for the kind welcomes!
I will make sure to decribe my experiences in that thread about sleep paralysis. I use to suffer from it more when I suffered from insomnia, now that I am sleeping better it does not happen nearly as often.
It is nice that my mom experiences it too, although it was kind of funny because when I first brought it up to her she kind of thought it
Was completely normal and everyone could do it just because she never talked to anyone about it before. She only does it at random though because she has never really tried.
I am defenitely excited to start browsing these forums and starting a dream journal. It is awesome to have a community like this so we can all share our experiences and learn from one another, before I found this site I felt mostly alone with my experiences other then my mom.

I think a lot of people feel similar, uncertain of their experiences. This is especially true since dreams can seem so real and have great influence on our waking feelings and emotions.
Glad you're here.

Welcome! I just signed up yesterday so I am still new too. I hope to see you around and I would think people might show interest in seeing what you lucid dream about in a dream journal. Don't be afraid to ask questions, I already know that there are lots of nice people that would love to help you out! Well hope to see you around.
