New to the site, is my experience a lucid dream?

Hello all,

Just discovered this site. I think from what I have been reading on some of the threads that I might have had a lucid dream. It was very short but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was all of a sudden outside a random house stood next to a red car. My family were there. I suddenly realised I was dreaming I don't know why but I just did. Everyone was looking at me strangely. I then went on to tell everyone that I was dreaming and that non of this was real. Everyone there looked at each other and then at me and someone said don't be ridiculous then bam I woke up.

Please please could someone tell me if this was a lucid dream and how I can do it again.:panic:

Yes, it definitelly was a lucid dream! No matter how short, once you realize you are dreaming, it's lucid, baby!

Check out this Beginners guide. It will tell you about basics and help you decide on induction technique. DILD is usually recommended to someone just starting out, because it's simpler.

You can also join DV Academy, perhaps the Intro class. After that, you can either fly solo, or continue with one of the other classes.

That sounds like a lucid dream, to me. As long as you knew you were dreaming, you were lucid. Do it again, tonight :D

Hey guys thanks for the reply, didn't think anyone would. That's amazing to know I was lucid! I have tried and tried and tried but just can't seem to get back lucid again.some nights I don't even dream I don't think, it's annoying!!i have tried to listen to an audio book before I sleep like whilst I'm in bed but that didn't work either and I just found it difficult to get to sleep!

It's funny how they happen like that, sudden awareness of being in a dream. It's a neat feeling.

Try not to worry about it happening again. Stress can kill lucid dreams. Instead spend time reading on the forum and posting. A lot of people find the influence of the forum acts like a constant reminder that dreams are important, and the ideas help your mind treat the dreams as something to be remembered and experienced. The forum becomes its own autosuggestion tool.

And congratulations to your lucid dream :) I sometimes also end up trying to convince my dream characters that I am dreaming and sometimes I even try to tell them that they ar dreaming, which is a sign that I am not as aware as I can be. Lucid dreaming is all about increasing awareness, the more you have the more control and stability you can get out of the dream.

It seems like your excitement or shock made you wake up, with practice this can be overcomed as well and when that happens you can start the exploration of the dream for real ;)

Absolutely. As everyone else has already said, you definitely did have a lucid dream. If, at any point in any of your dreams, you realized that you were dreaming, it was a lucid dream. There's a common myth that you have to control everything happening around you to have achieved lucidity; this is false. "Lucid" roughly means "clear," and as long as you had a clear, or even semi-clear, understanding that nothing was real, you had a lucid dream.

When I first started, there was a bit of confusion on my part on whether or not dreams which I wasn't sure if I was dreaming was lucid or not. The answer is no: If you're not sure, then no, you're not having a lucid dream.

Yes! Even if you knew you were dreaming or only a second in the dream, it's still considered a lucid dream. Start with the beginners guide gab mentioned. It will get you started and tell you how you can become lucid again!

Also be patient! :) Getting a lucid dream can take some time and effort. If you stay dedicated practicing, you will start to get lucid more often. Good luck! If you have any questions, let us know.
