Hey guys
Hey everyone :) Names Amani (not my real name). I can't really remember ho I discovered Lucid Dreaming, it was near the beginning of this year. Since then I've been trying it. Months ago I used to do reality checks and I had a journal etc. Yet I only came close once through WILD, it was interrupted by my baby sister. After that I don't know what happened, I kind of took a break, either that or I was lazy and I did attempt anything to do with Lucid Dreaming for months. Now I'm getting back into it. I was just wondering, when attempting Wild, what are some of the steps you guys/girls go through, how long do you lay there for (number, if you count), how long does it take to achieve sleep paralysis and what are the do's and don'ts. To be honest, I don't think I've ever achieved sleep paralysis.

Welcome Amani  I am glad you found your way to this forum, I'll hope or I know it will help you progress.
When you WILD you need to relax both the body and the mind. The goal is not to trick your body to fall asleep, your goal is TO fall asleep, but aware.
If you focus on making the body relax and try to make it fall asleep, but at the same time keep you mind super active, you will sadly just lay there with nothing ever happening..
Don't worry about hitting sleep paralysis it usually kicks in when you are already dreaming. I usually meditate before bed and wait for my first REM to kick in, but I do it passively by just observing what is happening. But I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner because it's usually very painful and exhausting if you haven't practised meditation before. And it can also lead to insomnia if you usually have problems getting to sleep. I only do this to really challenge my ego and well it's my life style :) Read this understand how extreme I am: (But I believe it's a useful capacity.)
Meditation And The Ego - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
I am not saying this to brag, I am saying this because it's unfortunately how many new people start out, with the most difficult and demanding way of lucid dreaming there is... I was one of those, but the difference from me and others is that I never gave up, but in the end I realized that I was making lucid dreaming more difficult than it was. And I don't want people to try the most difficult thing and then stop and quit lucid dreaming, that's why I try to make it sound awful ^-^
(Btw: Counting can work as meditation as well, but I prefer to focus on the breath. You can use whatever you want ;))
To start out I would suggest that you do a Wake Back to Bed (waking up in the middle of the night) and then make an WILD attempt, because here you are close to REM, but this can also be very frustrating if you are not used to it, so a better suggestion for any new pracctioner might be the DEILD method.
You basically sleep and upon awakening (if you are in REM) you lay still and have closed eyes, and you totally skip the relaxation process and begin at the end of the WILD process.
So look around the WILD section of the forum and read about DEILD (Dream Chain Induced Lucid Dream).
Good luck and if you need any help along the way. Me and the other Dream Guides + the rest of Dreamviews is happy to help you ;)
Sweet dreams! :meditate:

Welcome to Dreamviews!
As MasterMind said, don't worry about SP. You are most likely never to experience it. And that's not a problem, because you don't need SP to WILD, or to LD for that matter.
Just curious, have you ever tried other induction methods like DILD? I believe it's easier to start with. Feel free to check out our DV Academy to see, if there are any classes you would like to join. So look around, read up and post any questions or experiences. Happy dreams:alien:
