Hello
Hello there. I just recently found out that there is a name for something I've been experiencing pretty much my whole life. Most of my dreams are rather vivid and most of the time I remember quite a bit about them. I'm 43 and I can still remember some I had as a child. Anyway, there have been the occasional times where I will realize I'm dreaming, but I never try to exert a whole of control. I just kind of go with the flow. Even when I'm not aware I'm dreaming, most of the time I find myself doing impossible things like flying or manipulating objects. One common thing is that I'll be playing golf and I'll hit a ball onto the green and then guide it into the hole.
Anyway, there are certain places that keep coming up in dreams to the extent that they're like real places and I always recognize these places. Some are towns, some are cities, and some are rural places, but these places haven't changed in years and I will often find myself walking, driving, or flying through them and recognizing them as if they were real places.
I stumbled across this site because I was doing some reading on recurring dreams. I had the same one in various forms since I was a child right up until a few months ago. I would always be in a building and wanting to get out, but no matter how many corridors I would walk down, how many doors I would open, or how many rooms I would pass through, I would always just end up in a other corridor or room. I could go in the same direction for what would seem like forever and I would never reach an exit to the outside. Then I was having that dream a few months ago and feeling the same frustrations and walking down one of the corridors I noticed there was a window and outside that window there was a blue sky, grass, and a big shade tree. I also noticed a wooden chair against the wall. I threw the chair at the window, broke the glass, and jumped out the window. I can't explain the joyous relief. I'd been having this dream for over 30 years and this was the first time I managed to get outside. I haven't had that dream since and I don't think I ever will again.
So that's what brought me here. I think I've had several of these lucid dreams that you talk about, but it's never anything I've tried to do. Most of the time there is just a basic recognition that I'm dreaming, but I don't often take full advantage of that knowledge. I just thought this was normal but most of my friends and my wife don't have the detailed recollection of dreams that I do. Am I kind of an odd ball in that regard?
Anyway, this looks like an interesting site.

Welcome to DreamViews CharlesD! Allow me to introduce myself.
As you can see, I'm still pretty much a newbie. I found my way to articles about lucid dreaming and this site when looking up prophetic dreams and the meaning behind dreams. I was deeply interested but didn't actually try it til' a few months ago. They are amazing and unforgettable experiences no matter how many times you've gone through them, and that's a beautiful thing. As for your question, no you are not an odd ball. There are people who have bewildering recollection of their dreams. Dream recall appears to be something most DV members practice and it's pretty useful for LD'ing. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your stay at DreamViews and that is pleasant and enjoyable. :D
Godspeed to you, good sir!

Hey Charles!
:welcome:
Wow that is a great tale about finally overcoming your dream for 30 years! Congratulations.
You could try to draw those places you keep bumping into, and maybe create a map out of it. That'd be pretty cool. Anyway, what the previous poster said: you're not an oddball at all. In fact, try to read some dream journals on this site (button on the top of page) and you'll quickly see so many members with outrageous and cool dreams like yourself.

Welcome CharlesD ;)
The reason to why we can control the dream and do impossible things without realizing that it is a dream, is because of an decrease of the aminergic system of the brain that governs critical thinking.
Although just like we with intent can move our arm, we can also with intent control these systems. It's truly a mystery how that is possible, although isn't free will a mystery in itself?
When we intend to become aware of our dreams the system magically, just as easily as the movement of an arm, just increase and we become aware that we are dreaming.
In the later morning it is easier to become lucid because of the increase of this system, although my point is that this system can be increased within the dream and even in the earlier stages of sleep with just intent, which is a very beautiful thing :) However this is just an interesting theory, but it can be useful to know about. ^-^
About your recurring dream :) An easy definition of dreams is that they are our subconscious, memories and emotions. So in other words dreams is an experience of our own personality!
So it is very symbolic and only you can interpret your dreams. If I would make a guess I would say that the dream about corridors seems like a pattern of repetition, perhaps you felt like something in your life was always remaining the same and every decision you made led to the same end. But then some day something changed and you were free, the symbolism of trees and the sky can be freedom.
Lucid dreaming is a good way to both understand your personality and yourself, and if you want you can learn to change your personality and therefore your life by realizing where you want to make changes.
I hope you feel welcomed and if you ever need any help with your practise, well you are in the right place ;)
Sweet dreams and enjoy your stay. :sleepmeditate2:

You are lucky to have such a great memory. The way you describe your dream world makes it sound like a real, stable place you can visit. I'm jealous. The only real recurring location in my dreams is the house I grew up in as a kid. Many of my dreams start there.
