Question Hi... I'm new here, and would please like some help? :)

Hi! I'm Annie. I'm 20 years old. I've never been on this forum, so please be patient with me.

My lucid dreaming started about two months ago. I'll start by saying that I know most people try to lucid dream, but I don't. I didn't even know about it until I looked it up after a few times of doing it myself. At first it terrified me as I didn't know what was happening to me. It still scares me sometimes. I've been told by a friend that when I'm in the dream, I should go with it, and see where it takes me. Sometimes I get scared though, and try to wake myself up - I throw myself into things and just end up 'waking' up back in my bed. Sometimes I can 're-wake' 10 up to 10 times. Every dream I've had has started, or I've been contained to my bed. When I try to escape the dream, and wake up for real, my ears get completely muffled and my chest hurts - and I get this feeling that I'm dying. When this happens all I can think is that my partner is going to find me dead! I was wondering if anyone else gets this feeling? If this is what my friend tells me, a spiritual connection, out of body experience, am I getting too close to another spiritual plain?
Anyway. My main question is - WHY AM I HAVING THEM? I'm not complaining. I am just a little scared. I just want to know - is there something medically wrong with me? Or am I connecting with something spiritual - and why has it just started happening now? I have the dreams about 2 times a week. Also, when I have finally woken up, I sometimes hallucinate. 3 times I have seen words floating around in a square, once I saw red circles (like the ones on no smoking, no entry etc) floating around my room (this was my first one, I jumped up and looked outside, I thought someone was shining them into my house from outside!!), and the last time, two days ago, I saw the square text, and also faces. Lots and lots of changing faces. Then I saw mine, and I was just staring at myself. Then there was more faces. I was just lay in my bed watching them.

Does anyone have any theories as to why am I lucid dreaming without trying, and then hallucinating when I wake up? Also, does anyone have any tips on how I can be less scared when I am there? Thank you so much for listening to me.

      Hi Annie. Welcome to DreamViews!

It seems like you are having hypnopompic hallucinations. These are hallucinations that occur as you start to wake up. They happen because you are in a half-asleep/half-awake state, so you may see some dreams appearing as if they were right in front of you. These hallucinations can come in many forms — visual, auditory, tactile, and basically any senses you have. Hypnopompic hallucinations are the opposite of hypnagogic hallucinations which occur as you are falling asleep.

The next time it happens, try to remain calm and remind yourself whatever you you see or hear or feel are just a part of your imagination. It may be hard to convince yourself at first, but it will get better with time and practice. If it starts turning scary, think of something more pleasant. Those are thoughts, and thoughts need your attention to exist. So think of something else and try to turn the disturbing sights and sounds into something much nicer.

Oh, and make sure to check out The Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming And, right now some features of the site are temporarily disabled, but I'm sure they'll be back soon.

      Good luck!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

      Welcome Annehhh!

Fear is a common problem when it comes to exploring different states of consciousness like lucid dreaming, OBEs etc.

The best solution is to just accept the fact that we have fears and perhaps ponder the meaning of your scary experiences.

Dreams are just our subconscious, memories and emotions, so in other words to dream is to have an literal experience of what defines you.

Which is why fears shouldn't be feared, but actually welcomed. It's not easy I know but one just have to realize that it is not rational to fear a dream and it's actually beneficial to have such an experience, because you can learn from it.

Well it's of course easy for me to say, but have you ever considered why your mind let you experience things like this?

One reason to why we dream might be to easily remember our fears so we remember it in our waking life as well, although it gets problematic when we dream aware because it basically feels like reality itself. But try this:

      1. First of all ask yourself why you dream it and what it represent. Like is it a fear of not being able to return from the dream or is it a symbolic experience of fear of the unknown? That's usually why we fear the darkness itself etc.
      2. Get lucid and confront your fear. Just approach it and ask "What do you represent?" I've done that and got some pretty interesting answers.
Unfortunately the feeling of dying is a little harder to approach so I would suggest option 1 for that.

Although just remember the fact that nothing can hurt you in a dream, not even in an OBE. Because you experience with your awareness not with your physical body.

And I have a very simple answer to why you lucid dream without trying. Because it is the best approach of them all!

I noticed that when I gave up my reality checks and awareness etc. that was when I got my most success, I wondered why.

The reason was that the intention of lucid dreaming was by then subconsciously set and therefore already a part of my dream.
(Remember my little definition of what a dream was before.)

So the best approach is when you do without doing, to wish without hoping, to intend without intending.

But to not get into much detail of my view of lucid dreaming. I'll end it here.

I wish you sweet dreams and that you enjoy your stay

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Some people do have lucid dreams without ever inducing them, wanting them or even knowing, what they are. It usually happens when you are younger. I don't believe it's any sign of anything being wrong with you. We call these people natural lucid dreamers and we envy them. The are able to achieve something without any effort, what we have to practice and give lots of thoughs into.

Lucid dream is a normal dream, in which you suddenly become aware of the fact, that it's a dream. Normally, we accept our dreams as reality, but in LD, we realize it's a dream. Once you do that, you can either go with a dream, or change any aspect of the environment to your liking.

Dreams are made out of our thoughts. So if there is something scary, you can just think "oh, it's not that scary at all", think of it being something else, and it will change into something not scary. You can also try to send it love and watch it change.

This forum is great for learning more about what LDs are. Read as much as you can. Forum "dream control" may be of interest to you. In WILD forum, you will read about all kinds of hallucinations you may/may not encounter while falling asleep/waking up. Happy dreams

Welcome to Dream Views! This is the place to be for anyone wanting to learn how to lucid dream. There is no quick answer to your question, but the Dream guide team is here to help you navigate the forum and answer questions. We all have 3 green stars above our avatar. Click on our user name and you can then select private message if you have a question, or you can start new threads. Don't worry about starting threads that have been started before, just try it out, if it ends up in the wrong place one of us can move it for you.

One thing you can do in a post is place a link to another thread. I have done this below. You can click on the colored words to see the new thread. Start with this extra basic one, it will help you read the acronyms in other posts, Help With Acronyms For Complete Beginners

After that one the very first thing you should do is check out basic tutorials. This one covers most of the terms you will see members using in much more depth, so start here, http://www.dreamviews.com/f20/beginn...eaming-124786/

Also be sure to check out the DVA Dream Views Acadamy, click on this link to get there, DV Academy.

Matte , our Dream Guide team leader runs a general lucid dreaming class, and you can join in contests where you gain points for dreams you have. General Lucid Dreaming (Matte87)

Gab , another Dream Guide runs a class that is very valuable to beginners on MILD/DILD, which is by far the best method to start with. DILD (Hukif and gab)

Finally as far as the DVA stuff goes, there is a class on introduction to lucid dreaming. This is a great place if you are just starting out and need a little personal help. Intro Class (OpheliaBlue, RareCola, CanisLucidus, Chimpertainment, Xanous)

Now, on the lighter side, you may be excited to learn to fly! Here is a thread where people explain how they went about learning to fly, http://www.dreamviews.com/f14/can-u-...u-learn-40468/

Then just for a laugh here is a thread where people list all the things they want to do in an LD. It is mostly light hearted and supposed to be funny, http://www.dreamviews.com/f11/1000-t...-dream-104556/

Have fun and good luck with your dreaming!
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.
