I'm not sure if you could really call me a real psychonaut yet (I've only used meditation and lucid dreaming), but I think it's as helpful as meditation.
The main thing I've gotten out of lucid dreams is a grander appreciation for reality as a whole. Though I'm sure they could be used this way, I haven't tried to work through real life issues or complex thought processes in them, not in the way that I would on a psychedelic. I just take it all in and am amazed by the realism of it all. But often I'll also just get lost in the story and use it to have fun without worrying about how it can help me. I find lucid dreams to be more recreational than any hallucinogen.
Depending on the aspect. After tripping a lot it became much easier for me to break through the illusion of the dream world. What I mean by that is that I no longer see my surroundings there as completely realistic but more as a thought projection that's streaming through me. That made it a lot easier to control some aspects of the dreams, especially when it comes to things like detaching myself from my body and altering the more fundamental aspects of that reality. I think my experience with tripping also helps me keep in control in those particularly speedy lucid dreams, and it gives me a little bit more understanding of just what's going on around me and desensitizes me to the incredibly bizarre things that can happen.
In the end though, they're not exactly the same. Lucid dreams are in a class of their own.
Thanks for answering. That's about what I thought. It sounds a little like meditating in your dreams, but most people seem to use it for sex and flying and doing weird stuff. I'm interested in the spiritual part of it.
It won't let me use the quote thing, but Woodstock, you don't NEED psychedelic drugs to be a psychonaut, they're just another way to explore your mind. I meditate every day, psychedelics are something you should probably only use once a month at the most.

Have fun and good luck with your dreaming!
I do think psychedelics help expand the mind (obviously) and this can lead to better lucid dreaming. I'm taking from experience and I feel like my dreams entered a new world after I began to dabble in the mixture of chemicals sometimes organic, sometimes not-. Even though I don't regret those experiences, I would have to agree with the statement of no more than once a month. I feel like too much of that could release a certain amount of stress on your brain & it would effect your dreaming styles negatively.
Try Calea zacatechichi. I ordered some really cheap offline & It's been awesome for me. It's the dream herb.
