Hello from Sweden/Norway
Hello everyone!
My name is Martin, I'm from Sweden but been living in Norway since 2008.
I had my first lucid dream 2 years ago after watching walking life and a couple of youtube videos about lucid dreaming.
I managed to levitate over my bed for awhile and then slowly float into the living-room before I woke up.
After that I read more about it and got really interested in learning more, but my work and living conditions made it hard so I didn't make any more progress back then.
Since then I've had many dreams where I've known its a dream but not been able to affect them without waking up. One thing I've noticed since my first lucid dream is that I don't get scared of nightmares anymore.
I've had many nightmarish dreams after that where I know its a dream and if I don't try to affect them and just tag along they ofter take a turn down some ridiculously crazy road anyway. or is it me taking then there without knowing it? :P
I quit my job 1 month ago and its much calmer at home so now I'm ready to learn and make some progress :)
The best thing is I'm not going to work for at least 6 months and I have 2 months at home before I'm of to India so I will have much time for dreaming :cheeky:
I've poked around here on the forum and listen to the Dreamviews podcast and found its full of awesome tips and guides. Looking forward to learn from you all :)
And sorry for my bad english

Hello powy and welcome to the forum! :D
I am Swedish as well! ;)
There are many reasons to why people tend to wake up instantly form their lucid dream, but the important thing is to not blame yourself and get frustrated by it, because sometimes there's actually nothing you can do about it. One reason is that you get too excited and that usually make you jolt awake, although this can be fixed by doing it over and over until it just doesn't excite you anymore.
Sort of like if you were gonig to play a virtual extreme graphic video game, at first you would be like WOAH! But after repetetive time of using it, you'll be like nahh what ever I want something new... :P
But if you know that you aren't super excited but still wake up each time, then it can simply the fact that the lucid dream is in the early morning which will make your aminrgic system (a system of the brain that governs critical thinking) rise on it's own, however this system consist of the substance and chemicals that makes you alert as well, so it is actually very hard to stay asleep by then.
To solve this one need to practise the art of awareness focusing, sort of like meditation, you focus your awareness on the dream with your own will, instead of letting it go automatically because of the cholinergic system. It's a bit complicated to explain but if you see dreaming as a drug, instead of taking the drug to dream (("hallucinate")) you switch your focus to the dream yourself.
When you can control this completley people like to refer to it as astral projection or OBE, because you are by then controling the whole experience with intent and can induce at any time.
This is very advanced so ignore it if it sounds too out there.. xD
But well you sort of have to find a way to focus your awareness if you want to stay in the dream and in order to learn that, meditation and getting calm is a good practise for that.
I hope you enjoy your stay and that you have sweet dreams now when your home is calm. ;)

Welcome to DV fellow Viking ;)
I learned how to lucid dream as a kid when I had alot of nightmares. They were my dream sign and whenever I got scared I realised I was dreaming.
If you've got any questions in Swedish, don't hesitate to send either me or MasterMind a PM.
