I thought i was a little insane :S

Hi there :)

Im new to all this only started researching this a couple of days ago.

Since as far back as i can remember ive been a vivid dreamer, i can control my dreams and can literally launch myself into a magical land where reality doesnt come close.
For years ive just though ''yeah im a freak'' my mother even took me to the doctors when i was 9/10 as my night terrors were literally controlling my life.

Now im 26 and night terrors are rare now, i prob have them around 20-30 a year which is a far cry from when i had them 4/5 times a week or more when i was younger, Now my dreams are just crazy and when i write them down i feel like im reading a mental patients diary :S

My dreams still affect my daily life, 4/5 times a week i wake up with severe feelings or emotions tied in with my dreams and sometimes it will take up to 12 hours for me to shake them off and regain a full reality, sometimes ill even go to sleep the next night and the dream from the night before will literally continue from where it was paused as if i havnt even been awake.
My dreams differ from night to night, most nights i can coax myself into a dream and start the dream off how i want it to, it never really ends up the way id like it to in reality but never the less im in control of what im doing, somtimes ill even switch characters so i can see myself in dreams.

On other occassions it wont go my way ill end up having a night terror which will wake me sweating and screaming several times a night but everytime i fall back asleep the dream will pick up where it left off. Ive even been in situations where ive been frightened to walk to the bus stop in the dark at 6am for work as im panicking about whatever had frightened me in my dream.

If i dont have a controlled dream or a night terror its usually just random craziness and when i wake up im just like ''wtf??''.
I do write down my dreams but only because i keep a diary on my real life not because i want to control my dreams even more like other people seem to be doing here i didnt even know that was possible lol.

I dont want to go on and on but just to add a little bit more craziness to the mill i also dream about objects or things that ive NEVER seen before and think are made up but in reality when i check they actually exsist??? for example i had a dream 2 nights ago that i was marrying a chinese man and his father gave him a triangle like rock with an inscription on it. im my dream the rock represented being accepted but when i researched the rock on an off chance i didnt make it up i found the exact rock id dreamed id never ever seen the rock before in my life let alone know one exsisted outside my dreams, the rock however was an award in life not a rock of acceptance still thinks its weird though that i can dream about objects that i dont even know exsist i can even speak other languages that i dont actually know in reality :)My son is 7 and starting to tell me about his dreams and it would seem he is exactly like me :) could it be passed down??? who knows Plus many many more strange freaky goings on too much to even write on here.

I would love for someone to tell me why im like this lol would be a massive help

Wow, that's intense. You know, some pick up lucid dreaming to learn to control their nightmares and hopefully stop them from occuring. Have you ever tried that? To confront the scary stuff in your dreams? Maybe ask them what they want, what they represent?

Robert Waggoner in his book Lucid dreaming - Gateway to the inner self talks about scary stuff in our dreams. He says that often this scary character is part of us that we rejected, because we don't like it. Like a trait. Showing love and acceptance to it makes it resolve itself, disappear or morph into something non-threatening.
