      Hi guys & girls :D I'm Valiant

      Hi guys & girls,
you can call me valiant, as I don't want to use my real name, out of personal and professional reasons
age 28 and from the Netherlands

I'm a musician-music producer, also a martial artist, studied a variety of disciplines like
kickboxing, taekwondo, ninjutsu, reiki, yoga & tai-chi, etc. also the historical cultures & thoughts behind them.
emphasis on study instead of actually practicing them routinely to be more than intermediate haha
I've been pretty much a movie and music fanatic all my life, also science and sci-fi has interested me all my life.
Was studying in college to become an analyst in the bio-technology field and at 3 out of 4 years was forced to quit.
Did 5 years of hard manual labor in factories & depots etc to expand my music hobby & gear to build my professional home studio from where I now work

As you can imagine with all these interests came it's shares of (day)dreams and imaginations.
basically I dream up/imagine music and try to recreate it into reality the best I can

I knew of the term lucid dreaming, but not what it exactly was, now that I've been reading up in more details, the other terms I don't have much of a clue yet.
On my own dreams I've grownup always knowing that dreams holds meanings, messages and manifestations of the sub-conscience. Due to always discussing it with my parents from childhood, also my roots are indian by the way.
      As in bombay not apache

and from what I've read so far lucid dreaming is pretty rare or hard to accomplish, however
I honestly am aware of every or should I say most dreams, when they occur, regardless of being able to remember them

just like a daydream, whether I just see it as a movie or actually participate with control or create a dream scenario of a situation (much like a pre-view or flight simulator where you practice your options or choices, calculate the outcome, rewind try again till you get the best satisfied result/end, and move to the next)

Even in nightmares, sure I'm faced with some degree of terror but there is always that camera switching going on that makes me realize it's a dream from the get go. In case the camera is/becomes constant or fixed like in real-life perspective, then to me something is wrong, like the nightmare is turning up a notch, and I go in survival mode grabbing every resource I can to survive, often using excessive methods just to make sure.
but in real-life I'm a pretty peaceful guy, I don't even swat flies I guide them to the window.
Though in the dream I deem it as a resource in survival and I don't regret it, and the scary part about being conscience about all this is, should something similar happen in real life I might be quick to choose that mode as an option, since I know it works

but mostly when I enter a dream I have feeling or thought like "hmm I wonder what this dream will be about"
and when the setting or scene becomes apparent, then I take the wheel, taking some action or thinking up another option or twist, or just play the video out the end saying "that was weird" or what's that about" even "I knew that would happen"

I actually can't recall having them any other way, I mean if the camera is off, I simply don't dream anything.
Now maybe what I described above is known as 'normal' but probably not as I haven't read them on the net yet
But I'm sure it's all named/mapped in dream or in psychologically terms by now in 2013 right?

sorry to make this introduction so long, as I'm just speaking my mind
but the reason I signed up here, is to find more about what changed after you wake from your dream
more precisely what you bring back... ofcourse this may sound a bit weird

to elaborate, sure in dreams we experience something, often memorable but other than that
for example 1) learning something that you didn't knew before the dream, and after you woke you acquired the knowledge or even be able to perform it. conclusion bringing knowledge back with you
or 2) genuinely waking up with sand on your feet or other physical matter or 3) wounds in a specific design and having that when you wake (might be meta-physical- mind makes it real or something like that) etc.
you know stuff like that bringing something back with you, I wonder if that is also known or even common
as I only met 2 other people who had experienced something like this,
I've experienced all 3 with nr 1 happening occasionally,

for example some japanese woman speaking a few lines, me not understanding her,
I just say to her "I have to go wake up, have to go to work"
pointing toward my wrist with no watch, setting-scene is medieval times japan, anyway longtime ago in the past
and I'm looking as the dreamversion of me is walking off, she stands with a sad face
"I'm thinking in my mind what the hell did I just say? that doesn't make any sense why would i say that even if it is a dream, wake up!? I'm not done yet, it can't be time yet
and what's with her and the sad crying face all of a sudden"
-I wake up slowly, just 5-6secs before my alarm went off (scared the shit out of me)
standing up thinking - (holy shit if i didn't walk off from the dream I would've slept through the alarm as I was in deep)
walked out of my bedroom and I could hear an echo from the last line she said to me (~30secs after waking),
so ran back into the room powered my cpu, googled it's meaning before I'd lose it, and it meant "please don't go yet"
and I'm like "you've got to be kidding" checked the spelling vice-versa it checked out
spend my time brushing my teeth saying lookin in the mirror "seriously you have to wake up to have to go to work" lol So not only did I hear an japanese line which I didn't hear before, but my sub-conscience was apparently keeping time so I didn't overslept, it was also the only occurrence of time-keeping and I never saw that woman in-dream again to apologise properly for leaving so abruptly. After this I took interest in japanese language as I seemed to dream about japan more, hoping to meet that woman again

I hope to find some info about such dreams on here, surely I can't be the only one that's been having them
thank you for reading all this, and any thoughts, fresh perspective or knowledge of how these are called would be appreciated, here or pm me
thanks glad to be able to discuss the content of dreams openly with a community ;D

Eh, I'm not sure about most of that, but the whole thing on your subconscious keeping track of time is actually quite common. Usually not so much as to say in a dream "I have to wake up now" but some people use it as a way to wake up on time. Though it is mostly used by repeating a mantra saying you will wake up at a certain desired time, it makes sense that you wouldn't have to. You say you had to go to work, so you would have already known that you had to get up at that time. It was probably a coincidence that it was so soon before the alarm, but then you can never be sure. Of course, if you're someone like me who believes that anything is possible and there is much more meaning to things like this than what we think, you would want to find out.
I am especially amazed by the fact that a phrase was said that you didn't know the meaning to, and it turned out to fit perfectly in the conversation. If you ever manage to find that woman again make sure to let us know what happens c:

      Welcome to DV
Good luck and happy dreaming c:

yes indeed like you say, "sub-conscious timekeeping" as in normally you're not aware of it,
and if the dream character of me wanted to tell me (observer) it's time, he would've done it privately by thinking it,
so only I could know (normally info is brought to my attention like that in such a 3rd person perspective dream, like a thought popup)
Instead he said it to a dream world character, letting her know (he wasn't directing info to me) , also doing the wristwatch thing in a time there were no watches,
that was the unique thriller to me because it was so out of dream context, and the fact that I don't use the wrist watch gesture in real life.
;D and yes I like to analyse behaviour to complete the puzzle of what is going on in dreams

Yes the mantra-repeating thing (nice to know it's a common trick/technique),
I use it in setting a reminder alarm in the back of mind before going to bed, usually when I'm on vacation/holiday or when there's no alarm clock around,
it works like 6/10 times, depending on tiredness (decreases chance) and caffeine intake (cola) prior to sleeping min/hrs (increases chance)
to me it is more noticeable in-dream, much like a soft background hum during a movie or distant air-vent, barely audible or noticeable, unlike a chanting mantra

It was probably a coincidence that it was so soon before the alarm, but then you can never be sure. Of course, if you're someone like me who believes that anything is possible and there is much more meaning to things like this than what we think, you would want to find out.
about the coincidence so soon secs before the alarm, honestly it has happened quite a lot in my lifetime,
I don't think of it as that big of a deal anymore, but more so if it directly links to what happened in dream, context or conversation.
There are times that I have dreams that do have a "tick" feeling, notifying me time is up, and I have the option (max 5 secs window) to exit the dream or continue it.(like insert coin now!)
If I do decide to continue and finish the dream, I usually oversleep ;D
I may wake up 1-10min to even 1hr later than setting my real world alarm clock, depending on plans for the day,
and if the clock is in hand reach (<1m) I'll automatically snooze it or turn it off depending on the "priority-weight" of in-dream decision (desire to finish)
as I'm still seamlessly in-dream, this will not be known to me until I wake up and check the clock, this is why I position my clock roughly 4m away and actually have to get up to turn it off, forcing myself to wake up
(the behaviour or motive in my dream may have become clearer for you now I think ;D as in not to oversleep and be late for work and maybe to an extreme of losing my job)
if I decide to exit I may wake up early, mins or hours prior, or even middle of the night say 4.20am,
the most extreme of sleeping in because of finishing a dream I experienced was around 18hrs,
whereas I went to sleep at midnight-00.30 and waking up around at 19, without being that tired or exhausted,
on a sunday no obligations or plans whatsoever
woke up totally exhausted, like being jet-lagged or strapped to a hospital bed, lots of activity in-dream though

I am especially amazed by the fact that a phrase was said that you didn't know the meaning to, and it turned out to fit perfectly in the conversation. If you ever manage to find that woman again make sure to let us know what happens c:
;D yes I was also amazed and shocked to find such things in-dream that I do not understand like phrases or symbols or even equations on a school blackboard,
only to look it up or encounter it in real-life, verifying and validating the info, to find it fitting in one way or another

about the woman well I just used this as an example of bringing back some knowledge,
I've met more significant characters in-dream which I can like write forever about, and that actually taught me things just by interacting with them
even some happened to be historical figures when I was verify the info on the net,
like biography or personality traits that matched my dream experience with the character, it's quite amazing if you knew nothing of the character before hand

I've had lots of dreams very significant in meaning, one in particular which I will post and ask about on in the proper section at the proper time

thanks again for making me feel welcome ;D, you too sweet dreams

all I wish too add to other people reading is, pay attention while you're in a dream even the things that aren't in spotlight
      a rough example
a cat crossing the street while you're in the car driving with your dream lover, and seeing it again after you've settled down does signify or symbolize something even if it isn't the same cat
it can cross your path in real life and you may recognize it if you had properly paid attention to it when you dreamt, checking the name tag or finding out where the cat is from may lead you on to your dreamlover or meeting someone related to him/her,
you never know just saying ;D keep an eye out for clues

You're welcome c: and nope, not Japanese, just overly obsessed with it. :3

But anyways.. you seem to have a lot of interesting dreams. Unlike mine, which are just... weird but then I've always been interested in stuff like that, things in dreams that have significant meaning in waking life, and every time I find someone on here with such a dream I'm instantly like must... have... conversation.

I would probably be searching tiny details in my dreams for something interesting, too, but I have to get my sleeping pattern back to normal e-e which of course is never fun. Not sleeping for a night is my way. Any other way just doesn't work for me for some reason.

Anyway, good luck c: and happy dreaming.

just overly obsessed with it. :3
      That sounds like fun
Though when people say they're obsessed with japan, they usually mean cosplay or manga
BTW when I was researching and learning more about japan, I got into the manga/anime inuyasha which was quite good

but I have to get my sleeping pattern back to normal e-e which of course is never fun. Not sleeping for a night is my way. Any other way just doesn't work for me for some reason.
I feel you on this one, cause I often work at night in my studio, or have been awake for ~20hrs, screwing up my day & night rhythm
when I then sleep while daytime, in my case the dreams are less interesting (should say boring ) or I don't dream because I'm just so darned tired
when keeping myself awake working at night, I use tube lighting and drink caffeinated drinks, in my case cola (and yes I know this is unhealthy )

the best way to get my day & night rhythm back properly, is physical workout/activity and a substantial amount of daylight like being outside.
If I worked out, I automatically go in sleepy mode around 2200-2300 hrs (& not drinking any cola), then if I go to bed I sleep for 6-10hrs, after that I'm back to normal rhythm
a wise man once said: The martial/spiritual art refines the practitioner, if you use/take care of your body properly and in natural ways, it will rectify it's defects, returning to balance

"I enjoy our conversations" (quote from last samurai)
      sweet dreams

And yes, it for some reason is most common for people to be obsessed with mangas and cosplays and such xD but me, I'm obsessed with just about everything xD
