Hello, I'm New to This
Hello everyone,
I found this forum when I searched for "dreaming about dreaming" there was a post in which someone asked about this, and they were told it can't happen, but I'm sure that's what happened to me last night. I kept waking up (in real life) but when I went back asleep the dream continued and I felt like I was dropping into deeper levels of dream, that I eventually woke back up from. It was like the film Inception, which I haven't seen since it came out so it would not be fresh in my mind. In the dream there were stages where I couldn't move, and my friend (in real life) George was trying to get me up, as though I was drunk and he was helping me (this was in the dream).
About me though; I have always been fascinated by dreams. Sometimes the highlight of my day is looking forward to sleep and a mad dream. I noticed this forum mentions "lucid dreaming" I haven't read anything about it but I assume that means being aware of dreaming and being able to control yourself whilst in a dream. This has happened to me before but I have never tried to induce it. I think the first time it happened I was about fourteen. Its happened a few times since then. I'm now twenty-seven. I don't keep a dream book, which I think is something I should do, as I often remeber dreams vividly for about half an hour after waking and forget almost all of it by the time I'm fully awake.
Another thing which has been happening to me for about the last year, I have been dreaming about a specific place, which is not real but is like a fantastical and sometimes horrifying version of the area I live in. I have dreamt about it so often I could draw maps. What are other members views or experiences of this?

Welcome to dreamviews, dude. I'd tell you not to mind the weird folks, but then you wouldn't have anyone to talk to. :P
Since you've already had a couple lucids, you have a nice headstart man. And as far as the reoccuring dream-version of your hometown, definitely keep up with that. Draw it out just for fun, and while you'd drawing it think about lucid dreaming-- subtle connections like this can have a big impact on the subconscious.
During the day, whenever you see something and it reminds you of the dream-version of your area, do a reality-check, and think about dreaming and ask yourself how you go there real quick. You'll get in the habit of doing it, and it'll eventually happen in a dream. Awareness is key.
Oh, and while Inception is a great movie, things don't exactly work like that haha. Just a heads up.

Is there a purpose to lucid dreaming? When I have been in that fantasy-world sometimes it was terrifying and I was glad to wake up.

Well, in and of itself, I guess there isn't a purpose to it. It's meaning is whatever you give to it. To me, lucid dreaming means a couple of things.
Its nearly unlimited freedom. No longer bound by the rules of reality. I can fly, and explore beautiful landscapes, I can shapeshift into animals, I can create with just my will.
As well, I can use it to get in touch with my subconscious, and learn things about the inner workings of my perceptions, understanding, and delusions.

Thanks for your advice. I hope other people will reply to this because I'm rather ignorant about the topic and I would like to read input from lots of different viewpoints.

Yo. :)
Sometimes i have recurring places in dreams, in fact, i think i have been in one just yesterday, which was very futuristic/technological city of some kind.
As for purpose of lucid dreaming question, for me it is mostly about experiencing things that are otherwise impossible or too hard to do in waking life and also about having fun and adventuring, so yeah, pretty much freedom. :poof:

Welcome to DV. We are all crazy, probably because of the always insane amazing fantasmasticamagical places that we go to.
The dreaming about dreaming is possible, anything is possible in a dream! It is an interesting dream, never had anything like it before though.
Check out my thread in my signature "how to effectively DJ". It is about Dream Journaling and keeping tabs on your dreams in order to find out what increases your recall and your lucid dreams.
recurring places in dreams is really good for LDing! You should put that stuff in your DJ on here and draw a map of it on here. It sounds really fun and interesting!
