Hello, I'm Ren. Can you answer a few questions for me?

Hello lucid dreamers, I'm Ren. I'm a good rper who can be found rping on Byond games. Now to the lucid dreams.

I'm 15 and in the period of those 15 years I have had 2 lucid dreams without even knowing what they were. I was pretty sure that others have had this experience because i watched a american dad episode where steve forced himself into a lucid dream at night by having the reality check where he wills a red ball to bounce by...I'm sure you have all seen it. This was some time ago but my lucid dream..and i dont even know if you can call this lucid but i was like 6 years old and a spyro game on the ps1 was the greatest thing for me and one night while sleep i dreamt that i was spyro running around doing one of the missions in the game when suddenly while in a plaza like area i think to myself, '' Hey...I'm a human boy not a dragon..I MUST BE DREAMING!'' and as soon as i realized this i woke up.

Sme time after like when i was 11-12 i dreamt that i was being chased by freddy krugar and some point while being chase i thought, '' OH MY GOD HE IS GOING TO KILL ME IN MY SLEEP...hey wait... THAT MEANS I'M DREAMING'' and to protect myself from him i summoned a bunch of characters me and my friends made up in a RP game to fight freddy while i ran but the sheer excitement of summoning Renten and friends kicked me out and i have not had another one since.

Recently i have been having weird dreams where I r- you know what..it doesnt matter :roll:. and today i came online to search how to control those dreams and was reminded about lucid dreaming so i searched as much stuff as i could and wanted to have one because..come on... CONTROLLING YOUR DREAM SOUNDS AWESOME!!! Anyway... I searched a lot of stuff and i started to get scared because i dont have a very stable mind..i have a VERY over active imagination and i already hallucinate while awake sometimes and i have some pretty insane crap running through my head and when i think about lucid dreaming i think, '' Hey..what if i start lucid dreaming and start thinking scary maze girl (The little girl from the old exorsist with the really scary make up and the pic they use to scare people in the scary maze game) show up when i turn a corner or open a door and i have a lucid nightmare :shock:THAT WOULD BE AWEFULL......AND I READ SOMEWHERE ELS THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENT TYPE OF LUCID NIGHTMARE WHERE YOUR SUBCOUNTIOUS TAKES OVER AND USES YOUR ANXIETIES AND FEARS AND TURN THEM INTO ONE BIG HORROR DREAM :eek: I MEAN COME ON WHAT, I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO WASTE MY LUCID DREAM FIGHTING BACK BAD MEMORIES SUBCOUNTIOUS MONSTERS AND HORROR SHIT LIKE SOME CRAZY MONSTER OR GHOST TRYING TO KILL ME OR SCARE ME.... WHAT IF I EXPERIENCE SOMETHING SO AWEFULL IN THE LUCID DREAM AND THE HORROR IS AMPLIFIED BY THE FACT THAT ITS A LUCID/CLEAR IMAGE THAT I NEVER WANT TO SLEEP AGAIN!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

*deep breathes* Ahem.....so..what if i have the worst experience ever because of my low self esteem.....fear of most things...and fucked up mind... MY MIND IS CRAZY!!!!:shock:. I know i can keep telling myself it is a dream but the thought of going through that is just to scary.....:(....i wish I had low fears but to be honest..im scared of alot of stuff..im scared of stuff a 8 year old girl would not be scared of...I'm just so easily frightened... AND WHAT IF I ACCIDENTLY HAVE ANOTHER LUCID NIGHTMARE AND START BELEIVING THAT THE THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN IT WILL START HAPPENING IN REAL LIFE AND I END UP LIKE THAT GUY WHO DIED AND WAS BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE AND SAID HE SAW HELL AND BECAME CRAZY...I JUST CAN LIVE LIKE THAT.... AND WHAT IF I FORGET HOW TO WAKE UP!!!! OR IF THE SCARY SIGHTS GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK IN MY SLEEP... I DON'T WANT TO DIE LIKE THAT.

:sorry:Sorry im you are getting annoyed by my constant fear :( but i came to ask is there a way to block out those fears....... The fear of knowing i might accidently realize i'm dreaming and have a lucid nightmare keeps me up at night :insomnia:

When I started LDing my biggest fear was accidentally ending up in sleep paralysis and sometimes I couldn't sleep cause of that fear .-.
Idk, I still haven't had SP.
I don't even understand why are you freaking out about such a thing.
How bad can it be, it's just a dream and you won't die.

And i suppose you are right. Well i have been thinking about it and i decided to try and create a RC in order to start lucid dreaming, but i do have another question.

When you are lucid dreaming..how does it feel...like..does it feel like a regular dream and when you wake up its all foggy or does it feel like real life >.<
or ,maybe more like a game simulator.

Also.......what is a good reality check? XD

Welcome to the forum!

You really don't need to fear lucid dreaming in any way. I've seen a lot of weird stuff about lucid dreaming on the net, but around here we try to avoid people scaring others. They're always uninformed and inexperienced.

What you can expect is a greater awareness of your surroundings while awake and a greater chance of becoming aware in a dream.

A lucid dream can be one in which you are merely aware you are in the dream (with no control) or one where you have total control of the entire dreamworld. No two will be the same. How you feel depends on how you would react to such a thing. Personally, I think it feels awesome to be in control and aware of my dream abilities. To me they feel as real as life, as real as my mind can perceive things.

A good reality check will depend on you. It has to be something you will find significant. Some people try breathing through a plugged nose or pushing their finger through their hand. Others may try paying attention to Dream Signs, specific objects and actions that would not happen while awake. We have a whole section that may help you: Dream Signs and Recall

You're thinking of REM Atonia, a normal function of sleep.

Sleep Paralysis is an uncommon disorder, a parasomnia, that tends to occur more with a small percentage of people. While many may experience it a couple times throughout an entire life, only that small percentage will experience it regularly.

Sleep Paralysis is NOT a part of the WILD technique, no matter what you read anywhere else.

Start with your basics. Work on awareness of your daily surroundings, but not to the extent it interferes with your life. Start a dream journal. Pay attention to common dream signs, things that are common to your dreams but would seem odd while awake.

That post made me lol a few times, you're a funny guy :)

Many people around here also have that fear when they started lucid dreaming: to turn them into nightmares. Once you get a few lucids under your belt, you'll see that it's quite an amazing experience, and most of times you won't even have the same reaction to certain events. When a certain dream character acts weird to me (like staring at me), I just go there and shake her xD Besides, you're a rper, and that probably comes with loads of crazy ideas for fights and changing the plot right? Make use of them :D

Haha, I like nightmares, so I envy you your fear a bit. I only have a couple fears and I have been finding out lately that I can integrate into LDs. :P

Edit! Also I used to be afraid of dream characters when I started. After talking to them a bit they aren't scary though!

Edit 2! LDs feel as real as waking at times (most always for me). Look around, you could be dreaming now.
