Hello. Introduction (as encouraged)

Well, hi
I found this site either thought stumbleupon firefox extension or digg.com and just bookmarked it
Finally got a chance to browse it, and i was really intrigued by the idea. I am about half way though reading the stuff on the main page, and it's seems very interesting

I've been having lucid dreams all my life. My first one that i remember, i was probably 5, maybe 7 years old. I clearly remember realizing that i was in a dream, and my sister was walking away from me. I called her back, and when she turned around, i proceeded to try an convince her that this was all a dream. I don't think she cared.

Pretty much as long as i can remember, i ofter grow aware of the fact that i am dreaming. I never realized that i could actually take control of the dream, especially to the extent of what's talked about here. Most of the time i will just realize that it's a dream, and wake up. Can't stand it when the happens with those Rated R dreams ;)

My last one took place just a few days ago, and i was actually able to change something. I was running away from something or someone and then came to a realization that i was dreaming. Then it occurred to me that since all of this is just in my mind, i should be able to do whatever i want. So i told myself to run faster, and i did. About 3-4 times faster then i ever could i real life. And then i easily leaped over something that was probably like 4 feet high and continued running. I got caught up in the excitement, realized that i am breaking some laws, and tripped over the next obstacle that i tried to jump over.
Does that qualify as a lucid dream?

Another interesting thing is that that dream happens to be the first one i ever wrote down. It had some other really weird parts, so i retold it to my girlfriend over e-mail. Might make it a first entry in my dream journal.

So, I'll end this with a question. I always end up waking up as soon as i become aware that i am in a dream. Is that something that i can overcome? I would like to actually be able to have long lucid dreams, not just a 1 minute blurb.

I will answer your question about extending the length of your lucid dream, YES! There are several techniques that can be used. Some of them I believe are in the tutorials. If you cannot find an answer there, give me or anyone else a PM, we will be glad to help!

Yep, you betcha! Sounds like your a natural. You just need to invest a little effort, and you should be able to increase the frequency, length, and vividness of your lucid dreams. Glad to have you here! :D

oh yeah, and one more thing
sometimes, it takes me as much as 40 minutes to fall asleep. Is there anything that i can do to decrease that time? A lot of times I'll end up tossing and turning for an hour, and then just get out of bed and go watch TV.

I tend to have that same problem. Sometimes, doing some of the body-relaxing or deep breathing techniques can help to relax me enough to sleep. I also find that wearing foam earplugs helps a lot, too.

Is it just sheer discomfort as you're trying to go to sleep? Is it noise or light? Ear-plugs or a fan can help with noise, and a mask (which I often use) helps a lot with light. As for discomfort, I tend to have a problem with that. Often I will force myself to stay still in one reasonably comfortable position and if I get the urge to move I won't. Often I'll move right before I fall asleep, but it can help a little.

Are you a light sleeper?

my place is pretty quiet, so the noise doesn't bother me
and i have a a pretty comfortable mattress. i do have a hard time falling asleep when it's noisy though.

well, last night i kept telling myself that i will recall my dreams as my first attempt.
When i woke up this morning to go to the gym, my head was telling me that i know i dreamt, but i couldn't remember it. I was disappointed. I went back to sleep, cause i was too tired, setting my alarm to wake up two hours later. And when i woke up, ta-da, i remembered a dream. First thing i did is i grabbed the notepad from my night stand that i placed there the night before and scribbled everything i could remember.
I kept going back to sleep in between snoozes, but didn't remember dreaming anything else, although it felt like something did happen in my head.

Well, i guess recalling one dream the first night i attempted it is no too bad.

I'll hit up the tutorials section today and try again tonight

i am feeling very comfortable in this thread, so i am going to throw something else in here
I've been reading about dream signs, and there's one that stands out in my head, that's been recuring in my dreams for a very long time

i will often be able to read inside my dreams without actually seeing the text in the book. Like the cover could be closed, or my eyes could be closed, but the words would just stream into my mind. I could always visualize the text in my head as well. And whenever i would read, it would often sound nothing like I would ever write. I am going to attempt to do this the first time i'll try to become lucid. I am not going to try to for at least a week though, my dream recall is pretty lousy. I did staret a journal. I want to have 10 dreams in it before i am going to attempt going lucid.

I am absolutley facinated by the idea.

i have two questions, and i don't know if that's worthy of a new thread, so I'll just ask here

when you try and LD stuff, will you sometime find it that you will wake up more tired?
I read around, and it looks like a lot of those methods have one waking up in the middle of the night. Won't that make on tired to have such an erratic sleep pattern?

Also, how would i know that i am ready to try LDing? I've only been trying dream recall for two nights, and i got 1 dream the first night, and 2 dreams my second night.

never have heard of any problems of being tired so i guess not


for me all i have to do is wake up just enough to be able to walk my self in to a dream but others like to stay up for a half hour or so then go back to bed


you could be ready now you could beready in a few years but it all depends on how you dream and stuff try to get a few reality checks in every day and see what happens

i've been trying to do checks, i am not sure if i do them often enough though
i think i'll stick to my previous promise and make sure i have 10 dreams written down before i fist attemp to have an LD
