New, and having some questions.

Hello, im new here. :) And i tried lucid dreaming, and according to the steps i took which is(I can't post a link so here) You must lie down, with hands beside you, and stay perfectly still. After 20-30 min, you can open your eyes, and you should see hallucinations.
So i did that, and i opened my eyes (the room was dark) and i wasn't sure i was hallucinating, but i saw shadowy figures which seemed like butterflies (im scared of them...) and there were a few of them, and they seemed to come closer and closer(I wasn't sure if they were hallucinations or just my wild imagination) Then you were supposed to close your eyes, and start to lucid dream after. I tried that, but i couldn't. (Help? And is this even the right method?)

Hello Janney. Sounds like you were trying to do a Wake Initiated Lucid (WILD) Probably not the best method for starting out, but doesn't hurt to work on it anyway. I don't know what to say about the hallucinations other than sometimes very weird things can happen when you are trying to stay aware as you fall asleep. And there is no reason to fear any of it. I'd recommend working on a DILD method, which basically entails questioning if you are in a dream as often as you can, and looking for odd events that might clue you in to the fact that you might be dreaming. ( These are called dreamsigns.) You do this until you eventually think about it while in a dream. And hopefully then realize you are indeed dreaming. There are a number of methods of checking to see if you're dreaming if you are unsure. (These are called reality checks.) But generally speaking, if you are unsure if you are dreaming, you most likely are.

As Caradon already said WILD is not the best method to start with (of course that's only generally speaking because everyone is different). There are tons and tons of methods and none of them is THE right or THE wrong method. You just have to figure what suits you best over time. So as you can see practice and experience are really important in the learning process. You learn from every success as well as from every failure (so it also takes confidence to keep going). Just be sure that you can do it and then you WILL do it! :)

Oh and by the way, you might want to start recording your dreams in a so-called 'Dream Journal' if you haven't done that so far. Thats a great help: How to effectively Dream Journal Basically you just start off by writing down everything you can remember about your dreams to improve your dream recall (which is crucial! :D What would a lucid dream be if you can't remember it...?)
