      hi people!

hey! i'm new to this website. i started getting interested in LD after a friend told me her nice experience with it.
So i started to keep a dream journal, and in the last 2 weeks i remeber only 4 or 5 dream.
My dream recall is pretty bad, of the few dreams i remember, i can recall only few snapshots, without connection between them or a plot.

I was waiting to be good at dream recalling before going on with the next steps, but it seems im not doing any better, so i was wandering wheter its essential the dream recall to have LD, or if i can do in another way.

      thanks!

      Hi and welcome to DV!

Congrats on taking the first steps towards having an ld. Being aware of one's dreams and keeping a dream journal is highly recommended for both ld newbies and advanced practitioners (unless you have a truly good recall and can keep track without taking notes). Having a dream journal is crucial because it tells both your conscious and subconscious that dreams are important. Then you slowly learn to recognize the elements of your dreams. Maybe you are an adult but still dream of high school, then school will become your dream sign. You can train yourself to recognize these dream signs over time and this will help you become lucid.

Do not worry if you recall is not very good at the beginning. Actually, recall tends to fluctuate quite a lot. There are some things you can do about it though. Aim to write down anything you recall even if it is a feeling, a single image, etc. Tell yourself that your recall is getting better and write it down. Also, be sure to keep a consistent sleep schedule, meaning you go to bed at the same time, this actually affects recall a lot. Finally, you can also include a small pre bed snack to give your brain an extra boost during the night. Hope that helps for starters. See you around!

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Having good dream recall is important, for al the reasons dream guide NyxCC mentioned above. You can also start with mantra "I remember my dreams" and "I wake up after every dream and remember it". Mantra is a phrase you repeat during day and as you falling asleep. It tells your mind what you would like to happen, it sets your intent.

We already wake up after every REM cycle is over. We just don't notice it. It's a micro awakening, when we just turn over and sleep some more. This happens between cycles. So if you wake up at that time, you are very likely to remember your last dream of that REM stage, or even a few of them.

It's good to work on it by using a dream journal and thinking about your dreams. But you could also start reading lucid dreaming tutorials, since that falls into category of thinking/reading about dreams. Here are a few links to get you started
