What is this feeling?
Well I've been interested in lucid dreaming for a while and have had some results but am I wondering about this feeling I get often before going to sleep. I lay down and close my eyes and sometimes I get this feeling of me or my mind getting rocked back and forth or being flipped or spinning. I dies down and usally doesnt last anymore than a few seconds sometimes but I am just wondering if this has anything to do with sleep or dreaming? Any comments are apperciated.

I too have had this feeling and I know that I cannot control it . I will be right at the stage of deep sleep just after the twilight stage when it happens and when it passes I am usually fully awake. When I was younger I read some books about Out of Body experiences or OBE's. From what I understand this is the beginning stages of that. It can be very disturbing and I used to want to have them but I was unable to control them. Now they don't happen as much. Usually they don't happen unless your energy is low or if you are sick. I would suggest getting some books on the subject , that might shed more light on this phenomena you are having.
Good Luck

I too get this feeling when I go to bed. IN fact i belvie I madea thread about it last year and I recievd some good scientific anwsers for it. Give me a min, and ill look for it and ocme back and edit this post :P
EDIT: okay, wlel i looked at the post, and the anwsers wernt that great :P But apperntly it has to do with the fact trhat you are entering stage 2 of sleep. IN stage 2 your body is preparing it slef for sleep and you might feel dizzy. Also, the liquid in your ear does something too during this stage that can make you feel like this.
Heres my topic thread if you want to read it. http://dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?...9964&highlight=

I have always associated it with a change in blood pressure from standing or sitting to laying down. And when I have an ear infection the room REALLY spins and tilts when I change position.

Thanks for the all help. This feeling happens to me about about 3-4 times a week. I dont quite know what causes it yet though. I read somewhere that it is said to happen because you are drained of energy. I wasnt really sure if they were talking about physical, mental or spritial energy. It could also be caused by earwax shifting or low blood pressure. Also, while practicing some astral projection, about 15mins into it I felt my foot jerk. It was a pretty strong jerk and it pretty much woke me up. Does anyone know what causes this jerk because this not the first time it has happened?

The jerks are just a side effect of your body trying to make the transition from active awake to sleep paralysis. They're very normal and common, especially in younger children, but I experience them still a few times a month.

I had this last night, I was hoping to see what would happen later on, but I think I focused too hard on it and it disappeared. :(

Its funny you mention this. It happens to me quite often when I just lay down and relax, or sit/lay down and meditate :) I dont experience it as negative, its rather fun really ^_^ Like a rollercoaster. I love how I feel like Im spinning and twirling and bouncing :D I honestly have no idea if it has anything to do with sleep, but it seems to have something to do with relaxing or going into some sort of trance-like state? Ultimately sleep I suppose :) In anything case, I don't think it's a bad or weird thing ;)
