Introduction (oklahoma college student)
Hello, I go by DuB and I live in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, attending Northeastern State University as a full time student. I was born in 1987, making me 18 at the time of this writing. My "home home" is in Broken Arrow (right next to Tulsa). I'd just like to take the time to introduce myself, as I look forward to being a part of the Dream Views community. Sorry if this seems kind of long, but you obviously don't have to read it if you don't want to :P
I found this site on my own after a friend of mind told me about his experiences with lucid dreaming. After he decribed it to be, I realized I had done it several times already, so I began doing some research (I love Google), and quickly found this site. I rarely remember my dreams in the morning, but I plan on changing that. I only found the site last night and have already begun a dream journal in a spiral notebook. Unfortunately, it's still empty today, I suspect because I only managed to squeeze in a little over 2 hours of sleep last night.. that's college for ya :| I'm also convinced that I can improve my dream recall through sheer force of will, or maybe other techniques. I've also been trying to get into the habit of questioning reality during the day. The technique I've been trying to use it that every time I look at a clock, watch, etc, I take a moment to ask myself if I'm dreaming, usually by trying to recall the events that led up to my being where I am now, or by looking for anything out of place.
Let me briefly summarize my experiences with lucid dreams (which shouldn't be too hard, really :) ) Like I said, I normally do not remember my dreams, but when I do, I frequently (but I wouldn't say usually) come to the realization that I'm dreaming, at which point I make the decision of whether I want to remain in the dream or wake up, which I've done plenty of times. Normally when I decide to remain I get back into the flow of the dream and lose lucidity again, but the few times I was able to remain lucid in my dreams, I was able to exert some small amount of control in the "dream world" (is there a more proper name for it?). Specifically, I'm pretty sure I've willed myself to fly once or twice, and I clearly remember moving around objects telekinetically a few times, but not anything beyond that.
My goals in developing my lucid dreaming abilities are not totally clear yet. I'm pretty fascinated by the idea of dream sharing, but I'm not going to jump into that just yet. In fact, I didn't even read any of the articles past "Staying Lucid," simply because I don't want to get ahead of myself. I also think that lucid dreaming could be a good tool for self discovery and/or experimentation. Or, of course, for entertainment.
That's basically it. A few more things about me, which may or may not be relevant: I am pretty much obsessed with music, specifically classic rock (The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, etc) and 90's rock, and am a self-taught guitarist of about 3-4 years. I have a bit of drug history.. nothing too bad, but I pretty much defined myself as a pothead for about the last year or two. However, I decided to quit about a week and a half ago, for various reasons, which, as it relates to lucid dreaming, I think is good because it will improve my dream recall and my ability to reason while dreaming. Oh and lastly, I was a bit of a computer geek in high school, although I've lost most of my interest in that in the past year or so. I'm still pretty handy with PC's, especially when it comes to networking and the Internet, but not like I was.
