Is there any way to gauge the progress of your lucid endeavo

I had a dream today while i napped before work. My sleeps are now a lot deeper, even during the day. The dream started to get violent as usual, but this time I was slowly taking control. At first, just my dream wishes and thought were changing things, then I believe I became fully lucid and began verbally changing the construct of the dream. For example: The scene was a large auto repair shop, but i transmuted it into a type of carnival atmostphere. Then, as if someone was trying to react against me, it turned into a police station. So in my dream state, I reverted to something basely appealing and transmuted it into a brothel. Someone chased me out but I conjured up some friends who actually appeared. But soon there was the inevitable fade to black and I awoke.
I really wanted to continue the dream once I gained some control because I wanted to see if I could have experiences with people I haven't seen or talked to in a while. I also heard that some people say it is possible to share the same dream.
