Vojta and his crazy inner voice

      Hey guys,
I am copywriter from Czech Republic. I am trying to reach lucid dreaming for few months already with different effort and just few successes. The technique which works best for me is to looking at me into the mirror in dream.

There is one thing which really confuses me. When I attain this consciousness in dream, some weird voice starts to talk to me. It is usually composed by multiple voices, it is hard to understand it and I get all the time scared as hell. When I tune on it I am able to get few words, otherwise I am waking up, still terribly scared.

Tonight, weird thing has happened. I had a dream about running before ghost. I remembered picture of cross and suddenly, without using any technique, I felt into this weird "I-am-not-dreaming-any-more" phase.

I heard interesting hard rock music on background and this multiple voice, this time more female tone than male, who was telling me something. When I tuned on it, I was able to grasp this words:
"(...) horrifying things in your face. You should fasting to god."
      Then, I woke up.

So please, if you can give me some advice.
      1) What the fuck is it? I didn’t hear/read about this aywhere.
      2) I really wanna search it deeper, but all the time it comes, I am overruled by irrational fear. Any idea how to fight fear in this thing? I hope it will be easier for me if I will know what is standing in front of me.

      Hey, welcome to the forum

That sounds pretty scary man, I'm not sure as to what it could be about. If you want to explore it further but are being stopped by fear, you can remind yourself that you are in a dream and that you cannot be hurt in a dream. Sometimes that isn't enough for me though and I make my body turn invincible or numb or I make my body disappear altogether so that I know I can't be hurt. One last thing you could do to get past that fear is to fill your heart with love and peacefulness, nothing can hurt you when you're like that.

I hope to see you around some more!

It's not that unusual to hear disembodied voices, either in dreams or the hypnagogic state. I've even experienced a kind of pre-dreaming sleep with no visuals, just a running train of thoughts, like the whole dream was just a voice in the background. The distinctive feature you describe about your voices is the way they frighten you, but always remember that dreams fuel themselves off our own emotions and expectations. If something scares you, then your own fear will make it even more frightening. Even more so than in waking life, in dreams "the only thing to fear is fear itself."

It sounds like you already recognize this but don't know how to deal with the fear. It's easy to say "don't be afraid," but how do you accomplish this? There's no one-size-fits-all solution, but here's a few ideas:

      1. Remind yourself that everything you experience in a dream is part of you. Are there aspects of yourself that frighten you? Try to get to know your own mind better and understand what part of yourself is expressing itself through these voices. You might try meditating in the daytime in order to observe your mental processes.

      2. When you feel yourself becoming afraid in the dream, do your best to stay calm and curious, and engage with the voices in a friendly way. Ask them what they want.

      3. If you are too unnerved to deal with the voices directly, ignore them. Ignoring threats is not always a good idea in waking life, but in dreams it can completely deprive them of their power. There are times in lucid dreams I've found myself apparently trapped in a frightening scenario, and the things that have worked best are A) singing a song, which can be used as a focus of dream intent or as a straightforward distraction from what is going on, or more drastically, B) levitating straight upward and out of the scene entirely.

If these are minor, random incidents then ignoring them will be sufficient. But if they are pointing to deeper unresolved issues in your mental and emotional life, then they'll keep coming up and you'll have to find a constructive way to approach and deal with them.

      Welcome!

That is indeed scary, but as suggested, you can always remind yourself that it is a dream. Do you have a trusted figure you could summon? When I was smaller, when I had a lucid nightmare that I had no dream control at all, I would call Freddy Krueger for help and he would deal with whatever threat was going on and save me

Awesome, I love the idea of Freddy Krueger as a helpful guardian for young dreamers! It really turns the mythos on its head. How did this come about?

Well, believe it or not, when I was 8-9 years old and while my parents where enjoying one of the Elm Street movies, they never thought it was a bad movie for an 8 years old... but ironically they were right, it was actually a good movie for me hahaha. As my own theory was, "Well, he is the lord of the dreams." and "It is a movie" so in my young brain I figured he could help me if I was in a pitch in a nightmare. And it has been like that my whole life. In fact, I have a Freddy Krueger figure next to my bed lol.

I also had amazing non lucid dreams with Freddy, like one that he had a kid and I had to help him to learn dream abilities for him to follow his dad's steps. However, Freddy has never been evil nor gore in my dreams, but using his powers to defeat the threads. Like on a dream, I was chased by a huge alligator in a river. I could not swim fast, I could not fly, I could not wake myself up... I called Freddy for help and he jumped right behind me and slaughtered the alligator in pieces. Then from there I remember no more. Generally he just vanishes when the thread is over lol.
