No, there's no reason to need mp3s to have a lucid dream. I've tried using them, and they're a waste of time in my opinion. Some people have success with them...but I'm not among them.
If you want methods, there's WILD, MILD, WBTB and old-school DILD.
For more information, check out the tutorials.
And there's no necessary meaning to poor dream recall, it's fairly normal. Try writing down everything you remember about dreams IMMEDIATELY after waking up and before moving around or getting out of bed. This includes feelings, thoughts, emotions, colors, or detailed scenery and characters from your dreams. Anything and everything that you remember. I feel like I overexaggerate the importance of this sort of thing sometimes, but it IS a tried-and-true method to increase recall. If all else fails, try waking up in the middle of the night and doing the same thing. That works best after about five hours of sleep.
Anyway, welcome to the forum and happy dreams!
thanks :) ill try that, but one question, whats a WILD?
Wake Induced Lucid Dream
It's a technique to shortcut into lucidity. It's hard to master, but VERY worthwhile. Basically, you jump straight from waking life into a dream. Still, it's not something to waste time on until you're proficient at simpler methods. You need to know the basics before you can become successful at it, since it involves using simpler methods.
Er...that probably just looks tempting to some n00bs out there who want to be special and master WILD right off the bat. Let me clarify: Chances are, you are NOT Superman. Even if you were, Superman cannot run faster than a speeding bullet without learning to walk first. It isn't JUST that WILD is harder than most lucid methods, it's that it INVOLVES other lucid methods. Unless you can do them, you won't be able to do it. Prerequisites and all that jazz.
Heh...not to discourage you or anything. I mean, it's WAY cool, but WAY hard. So learn it, but wait a bit before trying. Right now, check out the Quick Start tutorial. It's a nice summary of where to start by the second-coolest mod here. (Sorry Seek, Ice wins the coolest mod prize since he made the site. Seeker gets wisest mod. Ophelia wins sexiest. Maybe Nina. Heck, they both win sexiest mod. Ramu wins most random mod, since Kaniaz isn't here to challenge her (though it would've been interesting if they dueled to the death), and the rest of you mods win some prize or another. Wow I got off on a tangent there. I'm betting it has something to do with the medicine for my flu. Yeah. Probably. Forgive me. *darned NyQuil*)
So. Totally lost where I was going.
Oh yeah, just in case you were wondering, MILD is Mnemonic Induced Lucid Dream and DILD is Dream Induced Lucid Dream (Realizing you're dreaming while in a dream)
thanks for the info, ive decided not to jump the gun and try a wild.
There is a whole giant tutorial on the main site page pal. You could check those out, they are invaluable.
[old fogey hat on]
When I started lucid dreaming, mp3 hadn't been invented yet. Neither had compact disc (CD). You could find that fancy quadrophonic in the hifi shop, but nobody had it. We all listened to two channels of audio and liked it. Except when we were in the car. Then it was usually one. But you don't LD too often in the car (although I have, another story)

Seriously - I've never used any MP3 to achieve lucidity. Maybe they're helpful, I have no direct experience with them, but they're certainly no requirement.
