      Hello!

      I'm Luuk!

I have tried to lucid dream a couple of years ago when i thought i could half-ass it and still get results. As you would probably expect i didnt get any whatsoever...
Now i'm back for a second try!

Lucid dreaming has always been interesting for me cause i remember having really vivid dreams as a kid some of which i still remember to this day. When i first heard/read about what they actually are i tried for a while to keep a journal and WBTB several times a week but i was not consistent and my sleep schedule was also really fucked. This time i want to take it a lot more serious and also have to keep in mind to not expect results in a week.

I am lucky at this point to have a load of free time the next couple of months(WBTB all day erry day) but this is a double-edged sword as this also means most of my daily routine is exactly the same most days. I've run into some trouble where my answers to "where were you 5 minutes ago" keeps being : at my computer. Next to this probably my biggest obstacle this time around is weed. I used to smoke pretty much weekly which caused me to have zero dream recall. Also my dreams for some reason after quitting so far have been really vague and seem like a blur. I currently dont really know what methods work for me yet and will try different one's over the next couple of weeks.

      Short term goal list:
      1. Improve dream recal!
      2. Have a lucid dream.
      3. WILD succesfully.

      Long term goals :
      1. Fly in a dream.
      2. Have conversations with dream characters.
      3. Get The Flash like powers.

So know that you know a bit about me, any tips that i should know before hand? Any avoidable beginner mistakes?
      Thank you for reading!

      Welcome to dream views Luuk!

Everyone on these forums are very friendly so ask questions, discuss or just unwind here!

As for tips, to improve your chances of LDing I highly suggest KingYoshi's guide on All day Awareness. It will directly train the root of LDs, which is awareness.

Happy lucid dreams! Do a reality check now! Go to sleep!

      Thanks Llama!

After reading the guide you left i do have some questions! After fully reading it my first thought was how hard it actually is to be totally aware of everything.

The example with walking the dog is something i understood but afterwards it goes into being aware of absolutly everything, so does that mean every object that currently around? What goes trough your mind when you are aware of everything? I cant comprehend it.

But i'm going for a walk right now to try it out...

After reading up some of your links i do have some questions!

Could someone give me a short example of what goes trough their mind when being awere of everything. When just sitting in a chair for example.
I've read a few times that meditation helps with lucid dreaming and after googling there are different ways of people going about using meditation.
How could i use meditation with for example ADA or dild?

Sorry if these questions seem obvious.
      Thanks again for reading!

I really like the concept of ADA, it can be a bit overwhelming for me though. I think that one of the best things for my own lucid dreaming practice is finding a way to maintain my motivation and not burn myself out. Hardcore things like ADA can be very useful for having lucid dreams, but they can also be quite draining for me as well.
If you have trouble with maintaining lucid dreaming motivation like me, it might be a good idea for you to start out with something that is less full on.

As for being aware of everything, I've never done something that magnificent, but I have practiced awareness a fair amount. When I focus on being aware, it feels kind of like I'm simply looking at the world around me and experiencing the information that is being presented to my consciousness. It doesn't feel like I'm forcing my uncontrolled thoughts to stop, it feels like letting go of those thoughts and relaxing into just being. I have found that meditation has helped me a lot with lucid dreaming and being more peaceful and content with my life in general, I think it's a great thing to practice.

The awesome thing about DV is that there are so many resources here, including threads/subforums/people, that can help you in any kind of area that you are interested in. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to send me a private message, I love to help people.

      Hey Luuk, welcome to DreamViews!

I'm happy to hear you're giving lucid dreaming another go!
You have a lifetime of dreams ahead of you... why not make the most of them?

I think you have already identified the biggest newbie mistake - giving up too quickly.
It's easy to get disheartened if you don't see results immediately, but remember that lucid dreaming is a skill that gets easier with practice.

I can understand feeling overwhelmed by the idea of all day awareness! I haven't tried KingYoshi's technique myself, but I know that any mindfulness practice can take a while to settle into.

I would personally recommend starting with something simple so you don't get burnt out.
Have you checked out the courses we offer in the DreamViews Academy?
Starting a workbook in Intro Class or DILD Class would be a great way to track your progress and stay motivated. You can work through the lessons at your own pace, and get personalised advice from our experienced teachers.

We also have a Meditation subforum where practitioners of various meditation techniques can share their ideas. All questions are welcome if you'd like to start a thread!

Good luck, and I hope to see you around!

Thank you both for your responses!

I will probably follow the advice to stay off ada for a while atleast and try something a bit easier.
The courses seem like a solid start and i will start a workbook later tonight.
Even the improvement in just my dream recall so far has been really fun!

That's great news, I look forward to your updates!

You actually mentioned another really important point - the journey is part of the reward!
If you view lucid dreams as the only payoff, then the practice to reward ratio is going to be a bit lacking.
Appreciating those other improvements, like more vivid/frequent dream recall, new dream control skills, etc. will make the learning process much more exciting.

      Sweet LDs!
