I'm back... after a long period of laziness

Hey guys. I don't know if any of you remember when I first registered, but here I am haha. Feels great returning to this awesome community.

The reason that I was inactive was due to serious laziness and lack of motivation for lucid dreaming, so I abandoned the whole idea and ceased to attempt it at all in the future. Any ideas on how I can pick this up again and avoid giving it up in the future (or at least decrease the need to)? I feel like starting within the next two hours (which is when I normally go to sleep), so is there also anything that I could try when starting out? Thanks, Fading.

Welcome back, you sound like me last year I gave up as well after having no lucid dreams. If you keep working at it you will be on your path to one. If you read this before you go to bed tonight you could try an SSILD, whenever I try it is has given me good results, either a really vivid dream or (on my first attempt) somewhat of a semi-lucid dream.

Go here for how to SSILD:

      Hey Fading!
If you haven't already, you might like to start a workbook in our Intro Class. You can mention in your workbook what you've tried so far, so the teachers can give you advice on what you could do differently or other techniques to try.
Sometimes it just takes patience and persistence. Just like any new sport/art, it might take a while to get the hang of it, but once you do, it becomes a lot easier to keep repeating and seeing results!

For motivation, I always like to remind myself that I will keep having dreams every night of my life, so why not make them more interactive and interesting?
Think of all the things you'd love to do in a lucid dream, and write down your goals as a reminder of what you could be exploring if you stick with it!

Good luck, and it's good to have you back!

Something that really motivates me is watching movies related to lucid dreaming. It doesn't even have to be related to lucid dreaming. The rise of the guardians is such a beautiful movie, the animations, colours, atmosphere is just so damn amazing. Entire movie has this dream like aura to it. I seriously recommend this movie, it's so magical, you HAVE to watch it. Always gives me a motivation boost

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I've tried a reality check which included writing an "A" on the palm of my left hand, where the lines intersect. I find myself looking at it a lot, after which I double-check by pinching the front of my forearm. At the same time, in my head I ask myself "am I dreaming?" while surveying my surroundings and checking the time.

Last night, I wasn't able to sleep at all, because my mind was too aware. I tried the method of "counting up", and it just resulted in me fading in and out of consciousness, which went completely against the idea of lucid dreaming. Any ways to prevent this in the future?
