      Hi...

I recently joined this site after searching lucid dreaming questions on Google and found it's a website with all the information I would ever need so I quickly registered for the site.
I'm a very quiet person so I usually reflect on things in my head a lot, a habit that usually makes it into my dreams, and what I use to make myself lucid since I notice everything I'm thinking about appearing in front of me. But whenever I'm lucid I can never seem to take control of my dreams directly. I actually recently had a lucid dream recently where I spoke to my subconscious for the first time. It was freaky talking to someone who was completely different from me but was me at the same time. I asked him why I couldn't control my dreams and he told me he doesn't like it when I do that. I got creeped out by this very quickly, but he continued to tell me that I think too concretely and that he thinks I'm an idiot. (Which is strange because I always thought I was pretty intelligent). I asked him how he can be smarter than me if he is me .

He then recited all of the Latin vocabulary words and definitions word by word in front of me, (I'm in High School so I have to learn these in English), I found this to be creepy as well because he seems to know all of this but I always have trouble reciting the words during tests, but I shouldn't have trouble since he is me so I should be able to know the information. He says that he knows a lot of things that I don't know and that if I wasn't such an idiot I wouldn't have so much trouble learning this stuff.

So I pretty much learned that my subconscious hates me and I came here to hopefully learn more information about this.
So that's pretty much why I joined and I hope I get to meet more people here as well.

Haha, let me assure you, that your subconscious does not hate you. For the same reason you mention yoruself. Your subC is YOU. It's your ally, it wants to help you. In some situations if you listen closely, it gives you hints at what to do. That's the "gut feeling", or intuition.

I view my subC as my "higher self". Me, with benefit of having all my experiences and knowledge that is gained from them. Because sometimes we learn things, but can't recall them consiously, or put 2 and 2 together. But our subC can. That's how your subC was able to recite all that you learned, but you had trouble "remembering" it in your waking life. All info is there, you just were not able to access it.

So, you were most likely just talking to yourself, with the replies being what you expected, imagined, or dreaded to be. Love yourself!

Hello there! I'm PhantasmDragon. Nice to meet ya! I also reflecting on things in my head very often. So often in fact, I forget what I'm doing, how I got places, or what to do next almost every day. Though I may not be quiet as often as you, I can be quite quiet in in certain circumstances... Anyways, I'm not here to talk about me. I'm here to tell you about the forum and try to help you as much as I can even though I'm not that big of a person on Dream Views and am fairly new myself.

First things first, don't be afraid to talk to forum members. The Dream Views community is very kind and is always ready to help a person in need. But we can't help you if you don't interact with us. Also, if you aren't that big on cussing, you will find very little vulgar language on here. Please

Secondly, don't ever feel as if all you can do here is talk about dreams. There are many other boards in the Off-Topic section of the forum which talk about anything ranging from literature to art to entertainment to sports to controversial subjects to role playing to philosophy to science to health to to blah blah blah blah blah. You get the idea. Take advantage of the nice community! We'll be happy to talk about anything! Me myself, is very active in the Senseless Banter sub-forum. It's pretty much what it says, boards full of senseless banter. You will also find forum games there and it can be really fun!

Finally, I suggest you start at the DV Academy if you have no idea where to start. They have a step-by-step guide for beginners which, in itself, links to many other great guides on specific techniques. There you get to learn the basics about the main three lucid dreaming techniques, DILD, MILD, and WILD including another technique DEILD which is less common. You will also get to learn about WBTB which is very important in MILDs and WILDs.

Now, I would like to give you my thoughts on your post and what I think can help.

It seems you have the opposite situation of what I deal with. I have trouble having clear, complex thoughts in lucid dreams and have trouble with transferring habits into lucid dreams, but I have amazing dream control. It seems to me the reason why you have trouble is because you don't believe you can control your dreams. You think it's not going to work or this isn't possible before you even try to control your dreams. You doubt yourself beforehand, so once you do try to control your dreams, your dream builds off the expectation of your mind and it doesn't work. You have to believe with your entire will and mind you can. Even the slightest bit of doubt can prevent dream control. Doubt is that powerful in dreams. The thing is, you've already controlled your dream. Whenever the things you reflect on appear in your dream, that is dream control. You were thinking about these things with your entire being, so these things appear. Once you become lucid, you ground yourself by comparing the dream with reality and expectation of failure. Dreams transcend reality being limited only by what you believe is possible. If you don't limit what you believe, than anything is possible.

What can you do help you gain control of your dream? Well, I'll tell you. Try to use your imagination more. Sure you may reflect on yourself a lot, but reflecting doesn't involve imagination. Pictures things in your mind on your free time. Imagine how it feels to have the wind blow. Imagine how it would look like if a rainbow appeared in the middle of the classroom. Visualize things in your mind. Remind yourself when you notice you are dreaming that you are in control, that this entire place is an extension of yourself. You created this world and you are its god. You hold this world not the other way around. Also, playing video games helps. Video games provide fantastical worlds you can draw basis off of when manipulating your dream without having to imagine them yourself. The difference between playing video games and watching a movie is that you control the actions in a video game, just like in a dream. You can also try comparing dream actions to real-life actions. Flying can be compared to swimming. Telekinesis can be compared to grabbing something up close. Creating a new landscape can be compared to opening up a door to a different room. If none of this works, try slowly building up your dream control. Start small such as moving something small like a can from a distance. Then slowly build it up. Try making a piece of paper appear. Next, you could make something disappear. Then shoot fire from your hands. Try jumping high. Try flying afterwards. Create a dream character. Then change the landscape. The best advice I can give you is just to trust yourself a little more. You can do much more than you think you can. You just have to believe you can.

Finally, let me try to decipher what your subconsciousness is telling you. Hmm... Let's see... Okay! It seems your subconsciousness agrees with me. You are limiting yourself by being too "realistic". You must be a person, according to your subconsciousness, who is very rooted in fact and without proper evidence, you can't believe in something. Remember science isn't absolute nor is it 100% accurate. Just a few years ago, the colossal squid was just a fantasy animal only living in myths, but in 2014, the squid was confirmed to be real and actually does fight whales just like in the legends. Science said nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, but now we have quantum entanglement signals and neutrinos which seem to do just that. Heck, quantum mechanics and theory seems to throw the last thousand years of science out the window. In fact, quantum mechanics seems to say everything that can happen has happened in a different multi-verse and all these multi-verses exist at once. There are so many unanswered questions left by science also. How did life form? What initiated the big bang? What other sea creatures lie at the bottom of the ocean? What creates consciousness? You can't let yourself be held down by "science" because in a thousand years, it will be completely different from today. Alright, back on subject. When your subconsciousness calls you an idiot, I don't think he's talking about book smarts. I think he is talking about the other types of intelligences such as social smarts, emotional smarts, survival smarts, etc.. Specifically, I think he is talking about creative smarts. The ability to think, feel, and imagine unfamiliar ideas is a form of smarts. It's one thing to learn what others know, but it is another thing to learn something in which nobody else knows. You seem to neglect your creative side in favor of logic and reasoning. Instead of thinking what if, you think what is. Like I said earlier, don't get too caught up in pure logic because what is considered logical will change in the next thousand years as science develops. Lucid dreaming involves a lot of creative intelligence and now that you know it exists, you know you can develop on it. The second time in which he calls you an idiot and says you wouldn't have so much trouble learning this stuff if you weren't one, I think he is talking about systematic intelligence. Systematic intelligence is the knowledge of how to keep things in order, formulate schedules, choose the most efficient route, connect seemingly unconnected events, etc.. So when he says if you weren't such an idiot, you should be able to know the information, I think he means you need to find a more efficient way to study. For example, instead of just looking at the Latin terms over and over from the sheet of paper, how about you use quizlet.com? I find it much easier to use quizlet.com to study vocabulary instead of just reading it over and over. Specifically, I use the quiz feature of quizlet.com and choose matching. I change the number of terms to just 2, so it will be much less intimidating. I keep on retaking the 2 term matching quiz until I feel comfortable enough to increase the amount the terms to 3 and then to 4, then to 5, then to 7, then to 10, then continue adding 5 more terms each time I'm comfortable. And if you think I may be unfit to tell you how to study, I'll have you know I'm ranked 10 out of the 969 students in my grade level. You have the potential to learn all the stuff your subconsciousness knows. In fact, you do know everything your subconscious knows as you are him. You just have to learn an efficient way of getting him out.

Don't feel bad about lacking a few intelligences. Lacking certain types of intelligences does not mean you are stupid. Everybody is missing some types of intelligences. For example, I lack social, cosmetic, pop-cultural, and athletic knowledge. I have trouble relating and making close friends with others. I couldn't make myself look attractive if my life depended on it. I have no idea who that one actor of that one movie is. I have no idea how well the Green Bay Packers did this football season. Does this make me stupid? No. And neither are you.

Anyways, this is the impression I got from your post. I'm sorry if it didn't help you or was completely inaccurate. I wish you the best of luck on your dreamy journey. I'll see you around, right?

      Bye!

      Oh, I almost forgot.
      Welcome to Dream Views

(P.S. Please feel free to reply to my comment, ask me questions, or ask for my assistance. I'll be happy to reply. Take in consideration, however, I may not be the best choice for advice. There are many others who have been here much longer than I have and may have more experience with lucid dreaming.)

Since I view my "subconscious" as my "unconscious" (as most psychologists will), I don't believe in a higher self or a lower self. There is just different levels of DCs. I think that you could ask a hundred different DCs the same question and get a different answer, or you could ask them the same question and get the same answer. I don't think that there is anything to "learn" in LDing, but things to "reflect on".

When I first started LDing it felt like all DCs were against me and wanted me to stay out of control and unaware, but when I realized that my mind was just doing the same thing it had always done... like a computer that has been programmed a certain way. So I am trying to reprogram it. I have DCs that help me get lucid, as well as places and things in the dream that can help me. I had unknowingly set things in my mind and in my dreams to keep me unaware in dreams before. Practice doesn't make perfect, but it does make permanent, and I practiced non lucid dreaming for 20 years. I think that this is why LDing is easier the earlier you start it in life. I also practiced dream recall all through my life, so it wasn't hard to concentrate on it when I started dreaming, lucid dreaming was something that had happened a couple times in my life, so I knew what I was aiming for, I had incubated dream control, so it wasn't hard to have control in dreams. Make sense? Hope so.

PM me if you have any questions.

Here is a thread that I have for beginners on the forum, I hope you like it.
