      Smile Stay at home mom...

And just found out i'm pregnant with baby #3 ( I have a 3 year old girl and my miscarried angel baby), so with late mornings and afternoon naps I should have many opportunities to practice! I downloaded a lucid dreaming/OBE packet torrent a few years ago and I felt really compelled to look through them last week. I have been blown away, I've read 4 "books" (they are really short to be considered this) I've practiced around 10 times in the last 4 days but i'm not getting much feedback from my body that i'm heading towards the right direction. I'm still really hopeful because i've never been so consistent with meditation, AP just seems like a goal or bonus and something i can look forward to.

My number one question would be, when should i give up on a session? I've laid for about an hour and haven't even felt my body go heavy.
Also, if you scratch or open your eyes do you have to start over again with the relaxation process.

Hey, first of all welcome to the forums. It's pretty cool that you're still interested with giving lucid dreaming a shot even with kids to look after
It sounds like you're using the wake initiated lucid dream (WILD) method, which to some people can come really easily but for others it takes a bit more practice or they may even be more suited to other methods of lucid dreaming.

I personally don't rely on this method to go lucid, but I can tell you that when I finally started getting it right I realised that I had started off with the wrong mindset. Most of the tutorials you will read will ask you to remain completely and utterly still while lying on your back while trying to stay awake while your body falls asleep. If you normally sleep on your back you might find this a bit easier but what tends to happen a lot of the time, for those of us who find it a little more difficult to sleep in that position and without moving, is that you remain awake for a long time and then just give up. The solution to this problem is to try and find a more natural position for you to sleep in, and don't worry too much about remaining completely still where you won't even scratch an itch. You need to reach the point where you are feeling genuinely comfortable and sleepy so being rigid and determined to not fall asleep will become obstacles rather than aids when WILDing. It takes a lot of practice but it's about being able to go to the edge of falling asleep as normal and then being able to bring yourself back in order to successfully WILD. This way you avoid waiting up for an hour at a time with no results.

You don't have to give up on WILD either to practice other techniques. You can always combine it with the WBTB technique as well as getting in some good practice for your dream recall and subsequently, your DILD technique

      Welcome Erikiia,
Some good advice there from Araishu. The only thing I would add is take it slow, enjoy the journey, and don't stress if you don't see quick results. Try and keep a positive mindset, and relish every small step.

I thought my next reply here would be that YES I had done it but.. that's not the case. I've had mild tingles that have been mainly in my hands, arms and legs. One time on my lower jaw. That's after 1.5 hours. I've been practicing about once a day, after 6 hours of sleep or at 3 a.m. IT DOES FEEL SOOO GOOD EITHER WAY! Thanks for the advice! I've read somewhere that each time i practice i should tweak my method a bit so i have tried this but never actually feel relaxed, i've noticed something is usually tense to support my body in the side position. I'm not very lucid with dreams so i don't think that will be my way in, i haven't remembered a dream for a couple weeks.

Welcome to DreamViews, Erikiia! Congrats on the pregnancy ^_^

Cool name too, and I love that face paint!

Dream recall is pretty important, so you might want to work on recalling more dreams. Dream journaling is one way to help with recall. I also get better recall if I write down some keywords or short notes about a dream when I wake during the night. It helps the dream to stick in my memory and the notes help jog it too. By doing this I'm usually able to recall the dream in pretty good detail later in the day, and can write a longer dream journal entry if I want then.

If you wake up and don't recall any dreams try just lying still with your eyes closed for a moment and let your mind wander. This can really help you recall "lost" dreams. Sometimes I'll only remember a very vague detail of the dream or nothing at all, but then more bits and pieces will start to come back to me as I lay there. Check out this thread for more tips for good recall: http://www.dreamviews.com/dream-sign...ompendium.html

I wish you good luck and success on your path to lucidity
