I'm new!
I've been lurking for about a month. I don't think I'd LD'd before looking into it here. I've been DJing for the last month or so, but never got close to lucid.
Last night I randomly got woken up and decided to just be still and see if I could maybe WILD (I normally set my intention to have good recall and go to sleep). This time for whatever reason I actually saw amazingly vivid HI and just observed. I wasn't ready for how clear the images looked. After a while a dream formed (just a meeting room setting), someone said something and I kinda got yanked out. I feel like I got my first glimpse of an LD.
I wanted to at least stick with this until I saw if there was really the potential that everyone was talking about, and I'm convinced now that I've seen how vivid (maybe clearer than what I normally see in WL) things can be.
Anyway, here I am. :)

Hey oxenfree! :welcome: to DreamViews! It's great how you experienced really vivid hynagogic imagery. Hope you have a LD soon!

Welcome, oxenfree!
Yup, the image of a meeting room was an HH, or hypnogogic hallucinations. Those are the beginnings of dreams. If you experience them and you are still aware at that time, it means you are essentially asleep while aware. You were transitioning into a dream (LD in your case). So yes, you did get a glimpse of lucid dreaming. When those still images turn into videos, you are fully dreaming. It's possible to enter a lucid dream from that point, or even much sooner.
And haha yes, the HH and lucids can be more clear and vivid than waking life itself. I don't know how is it possible, but I have seen it many times. And that's only one thing fascinating about LDs and transition process.
I have to also say, that entering a LD via images/HH is only one way to enter them. Because sometimes we don't see any images or don't get any other HH or indication that we are already asleep and dreaming while still aware. So it's important to assume that as soon as you lay down to WILD, you could be dreaming. Then keep testing it with motionless RCs, like trying to float up from your bed, move your hand or stand up/roll out from your bed just by thinking it.
WILD > long but great tutorial

Thanks for the replies! I haven't been able to get anywhere near that kind of success since that first thing. At that time, I was able to hold completely still for quite a while before anything happened, like 20 minutes so with almost no movement. Since then I have just been unable to sleep when I've tried it. I've done almost exclusively MILD, which has improved my dream recall, but I don't really have the habit of RCing during the day yet.
