I have been having the same lucid dream since I was 5 yrs old ....it comes for 3 or 4 times a week then stops for a couple of years and picks up again...lately it been coming 3 to 4 times a week with only a break of about 2 weeks inbetween.....any ideas on this? Anyone else have this napping to them?

A recurring lucid dream? Usually when we have recurring dreams we can use that to our advantage to achieve lucidity (which usually takes work) and then do whatever the hell we want.
Are you sure these are lucid dreams? In the dream, do you know it is a dream?
If you know it is a dream, it is lucid, and it gives you the opportunity to control the dream.
I am not sure about the lucid part, but I have had powerful dreams that repeat every so often for years.
Hey slash, hope all is well (still have to put reality check symbols above my doors!) anyway, question..do you believe that anyone can control/manipulate lucid state..in other words ive had numerous ld's (i highly doubt as frequent or numerous as you) but cant seem to control anything (environment, dream characters, ect) perhaps its my overall negative perception of things..often i go to sleep (or wake up) with backpain (on going chronic problem)..believe that contributes to nightmares or bad dream experiences, thoughts?
Good question. Indeed you can have a non-controlled lucid dream. You can choose to control it or not control it, for example.Quote:

If you have full control over your dream body and thoughts, but can't control other things, then indeed you want to hold a positive attitude towards your ability to control. You really must remove doubt. I assume that your inability to control has put you in a cycle of doubt... You need to get out of that. Empower yourself. KNOW that you are literally the God of your dream world, and that the world reacts to your every thought and intention.
Thanks for advice man..i think most of my ld experiences (recently have been pretty rare) i desperately attempt reality check (most likely should be more persistent at this moment) then instantly wake up or slip into false awakening..will check out videos u mentioned , peace

I've been studying psychology lately, and I ran across a statement somewhere concerning recurring dreams. Apparently they're a result of obsessively repetitive thoughts, which makes sense. By any chance do you suffer from obsessive thinking?
To me, a recurring lucid dream seems to be a very powerful tool for lucidity, and not a negative at all.
It's almost like a cheat around one of the hardest aspects of LD'ing: making that first recognition that you are dreaming. If you are starting your dreaming night with the same dream consistently, and you know it is a dream every time, you have pretty much obtained every LD'er's goal of consistent, easily achieved lucidity... very cool!
If you are truly lucid in these dreams, Mslividwebbs, instead of being concerned about their recurrence you might want to start working on what to do when you are in them. I would start with taking a moment to remember: Remember things like your sleeping body back in your physical world bed; remember your goals, and above all remember that your dreamworld is your own world, and not someone else's, where you are fully empowered to change the scene from the one you were originally provided to one you really want to be in, and you can do so by doing something as simple as turning around.
All this brings me around to a question I think you've already been asked, Mslividwebbs: why do you think these recurring dreams are lucid?

Agreed..and i usually dont panic but perform reality check as quick as possible (last experience putting nail into finger) it was easier to prolong ld's when i was younger and still have to look into reece jones videos (plus research more info about reality checks) thanks for quick response
To answer some of your questions .....yes I know it's a dream when I slip into this particular one....darkmatter I don't think over thinking the trouble..since the topic of the dream scared the heck out of me at 5...buy now at 45 I know not to be of it....i can change my responses to things in it and sometimes it changes the outcomes of actions in it but I can not change the surrounding areas or the weather ...or the other people in it...
Ok, maybe not obsessive thinking. Dreams do reflect what's happening in our lives, sometimes pretty directly and sometimes symbolically. If the original dream was a reflection of something frightening, then maybe when you dream about it again you're experiencing the same fear in your life again?
Scary dreams or nightmares often do cause lucidity because when we're scared we become much more alert and aware, in order to try to see everything happening around us. It's a sort of panic response. And increased alertness/awareness of course is what causes lucidity. In fact many people first started becoming lucid because of nightmares, and as a result they learned how to become lucid whenever they wanted. They learned to be able to tell when they're dreaming - to recognize the way the dreaming state feels or how it behaves, which is different form the waking state.
That's sound logical darkmatters. So does that still be lucid dreaming enough to find a way to solve the symbolism of the dream to fix it so I can know what fear or happenings in waking life to fix as well? And what more can I do to help this along the process to do so...would a dream journal of the things I can effect each time help? Or is my uncounisious brain stuck.like this?

Some possibilities I can think of -
Can you remember anything that happens in your life when you had these dreams?
Do the dreams themselves suggest anything? Something that would make sense in your waking life?
If you are lucid in the dreams, then next time it happens, maybe you can just ask your subconscious what they mean or why you keep having them?
You've been getting a lot of good advice here.
But I'll just mention one thing which I think has not yet been mentioned.
Dream stabilization.
The moment you are in a dream and you know it's a dream, you want to stabilize the dream.
E.g. Stop what you're doing, calm down, look around, breath, look at your hands, pick things up and look at them, then start walking around.
Doing this should build your presence and your level of control over the dream.
Even try spinning round. Spinning is another dream stabilization technique, but you can even use it as a teleportation technique. Close your eyes, imagine another dream scene, spin round while keeping an image of that dream scene, then open your eyes.
