      Dream Recall

Hey guys, I'm pretty much a noob as far as dreaming is concerned. I never believed that I could remember my dreams until a friend introduced me to this site, but since then I've been trying to build up dream recall and work towards lucid dreaming. I've only ever had one lucid dream in my entire life. I dreamed that I was flying above that world at an incredible speed, so fast that all I could see of my surroundings were blurs. It felt incredible, and then suddenly, I realized that I was dreaming, and with that realization came the primal understanding that I could literally go anywhere. I woke up at that moment, probably because I got excited. I've been trying to recapture that feeling ever since; it ranks among the most amazing in my life.

I usually don't post on forums, but I decided it might help me dream if I browsed the Dreamviews forums each night right before I go to sleep.

Anyways, lately I've been having troubles remembering dreams. I've never been good at it, but right after I started trying to I had a run of 5 really vivid, detailed, lengthy dreams that I recalled right in a row. Lately, however, it seems I've hit a slump, and I was wondering if you guys had any advice for building up dream recall, especially for someone who's really bad at it. Thanks!

      Hey, welcome to the board!
As regards dream recall and 'building it up' You are talking to the person that once didn't remember a single dream for a whole fortnight!
I think it comes in peaks and troughs. Sometimes it's up, sometimes it's down.
I find these things very helpful for recall.
Try not to have too much stress in your life (difficult, i know)
Try to always keep the same routine before bed.
      Peppermint tea helps with recall.
When you wake in the morning, don't leap straight up and begin writing a dream down. Lie there for a few minutes and sort the events of the dream out in your head. I often find that this helps me to remember.

If you can't remember anything, try to examine how you feel. That can often give you vital clues to what just went on. If you can get at least one detail, you can usually work forward and backward from there to uncover significant portions of a dream. Just keep trying, and write every detail you can remember in your dream journal. I used to be pretty bad at remembering dreams too, but now I'm recalling two or three a night.
“The sleep is still in my eyes
The dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
And lie a while in bed
I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams” —Rush

I neevr had any difficulty recallign dreams, btu maby this will help. When you are going to sleep, tell your slef that you are phisicly going to a dream world, and in the mornign have you to remebr what you did that night. Then when you wake up pretend you may have had too much to drink at the palce you wnet last night, so you have to lay there until you rmeebr what you did.

PS: Look at irishcream, she siad she didnt remebr dreams often, and now she has one of the largest Dj iev seen here.

      Thanks

I'll give your tips a try, especially the one about how I feel - I often wake up with the feeling that I had a dream about something, but am unable to remember what it is.

And my anxiety turned out to be ill-founded - I was able to recall two dreams last night, so I woke up pretty happy this morning.

      Dwell

      Hey Traveler,
You've already been told this but i just wanted to tell you that the best way i ever heard it described was to 'dwell' in the feeling you have when you wake up.
If possible, don't think about what you've got to do when you get out of bed. When you wake up you'll have a residual feeling from the time when you were asleep. Just dwell quietly in that feeling and you should atleast recall some images.

Here's hoping you get better at it. By the way, how did you come up with your user name?

      Peace dude.

Last time I tried it I didnt think I'd had a dream, but something triggered my memory as I was about to get out of bed, I wrote about it for a few good minuites. It was my first proper DC, I feel so proud
The way i've been trying to remember then, and have LD, is through self-hypnosis. And there's a tutorial about it in the tutorial section, give it a try

      Name

I dunno, I guess it comes from the combination of my love of simplicity and understatement combined with my outlook on life.

I'd rather go with something simple as opposed to grandiose names like "FallenAngel6" or something.

I hear that! I never usually remember dreams, but this morning I got woken up, laid there a couple of mins and as I was getting out of bed a picture from the dream hit me which opened up the rest of the dream and 2 others!
      I hope this keeps up!
I can't say I really know anything about what you're talkinga bout , but I said plausible because of that incredibly cool blind spot trick .

Three dreams on your first try? Man, that'd be a good night for me, and I remember mine every night...

That's usually how I remember them too. Sometimes I'll wake up absolutely clueless, but I never give up. Almost always you can pick some detail out of your memory if you try hard enough, and use that to pry open the rest of the dream.

      Rembering Dreams

      I usually remember 3 dreams a week.

It really helpsif you are relaxed, and have something (like a teddy bear) to snuggle with. I haven't ever had a lucid dream, but i had an ULD (I dreamt I was lucid dreaming. But at that time, i didn;t even know what lucid dreaming was. Wait, maybe that dream WAS a lucid dream. But i was i a simulator....)

      Ok.

I have NEVER had an LD, or a WILD. Only the fake LD.
