      Greetings to all!

This is a brief group introduction from our harmonious system as a whole.

We have the condition which is currently commonly known as dissociative identity disorder, and before that was known as multiple personality disorder. While we feel those terms suggest that the condition is inherently a problem, and we recognize that being this way, as well as the things that cause this condition to arise, can indeed cause disorder in life, we feel that being multiple in and of itself is simply who you are once the condition has developed and regardless of whether or not you are able to overcome your related disorder, and thus we strive to respect each other in the system as individuals while simultaneously working together as a unit towards a collectively happy and functional life, as we are doing now by making this introductory post together. We prefer to use terms that highlight our belief in healthy multiplicity for this reason, but we will not fault you for using the common psychiatric terms of out of convenience as we often still do ourselves.

We have a lot of experience already with lucid dreaming, but not in many years and only before we understood ourselves in this way. It has been a long time now since we spontaneously became lucid with any regularity and we are very interested in practicing to get back to that frequency we once had, especially as we are now very intrigued to explore what lucid dreaming can help us achieve with respect to greater communication between ourselves and allowing many of us who don't feel as comfortable in the body in to find and enjoy themselves in a more physically uninhibited way. We always found in the past that keeping a log of our dreams and discussing them regularly with others helped to increase our chances of lucidity tremendously, so the main reason we chose to create an account here now is to make use of the Dream Journal system, and that's probably where most if not nearly all of our posting will take place. However, we may occasionally drift elsewhere, especially if it's to try something we think may help us in our lucid journey, and at least thought it was worth making this post here to say hello.

Since this is a group message we will keep any further specifics to ourselves for the moment, but we thank you for reading our introduction and look forward to exploring our dreams much more again and enjoying those of others shared here in the process!

      Welcomes to the forum.

I used to have schizophrenia, but we're OK now!

We're glad to hear you've got it under control! We thought we might have schizophrenia for a long time before we started to understand what was really going on. After glancing briefly at your profile, we'd be very interested if you have any insights to share on how exactly you managed it, given your interests. The idea of "hacking" human consciousness for better living is something that has long since captivated us....

I was just trying to be funny...

But what if our brains start grouping human behavior into categories from a very young age; growing clusters of neurons when we recognize similar characteristics. And what if everyone carries these clusters in their head? They'd all obviously be different, depending on how we happened to experience the human condition. But maybe it isn't so crazy if some of these clusters have distinct voices and some of our random thoughts happen to sound differently in our heads. Heck, reading a quote in your head or remembering something someone said can sound just like their voice in your imagination.

I'm sure you've already encountered the Archetypes; the shadow, the wise old man, the child, the mother figure, the maiden, the anima, and the animus. Ideally we'd all strive to be the hero, but what if at some point we saw the root character around which our hero-neuron-cluster grew do something evil? Maybe it would explain why we sometimes avoid being the hero where we could have been. I sometimes wonder if love isn't simply the recognition of a part of ourselves - the neural network of the perfect partner, in someone else's chance appearance or behavior.

Excuse us for missing the humor, we have conversations with people trying experimental or progressive treatments for their mental disorders on a pretty regular basis and try not to make any assumptions. This being a lucid dreaming community also makes us try to be even a little more openminded than normal.

We can relate a lot to what you say. The general consensus in here is that traumagenic multiplicity probably in some ways at its core relates to the sorts of clusters you refer to becoming so separately and heavily developed via the acute and persistent excitatory dissociative effects of trauma and from such a young age that it simply causes the "voices in your head" to become so heavily distinct from one another and so much more individually complex than usual that the loss of inherent whole-network connectivity is compensated for by the fractured networks being able to communicate verbally on a level we normally associate with whole-network outward communication between bodies in the conscious realm. We also feel that this is where the condition likely has relevance to the archetypes you also mention, though we also suspect that the mechanisms of dissociation in dissociative identity disorder are more flexible to the context than that because it's not like we just have a bunch of alters that perfectly match to any one set of traditional labels, but there is to some degree a feeling of complementing between some of our alters that invokes this sort of "parts of a whole" imagery, even though our condition has caused them to feel in some ways individually developed as their own wholes nonetheless. Still, we do not suspect that living without this condition feels particularly similar to living with it, we just suspect that the brain finds a way to get the stuff it wants and needs either way.

Another aspect of the condition we feel is important to consider is the way that people who develop dissociative identity disorder through trauma at a young age which seems to be necessary are often then still somehow capable of developing new alters into adulthood long beyond the age at which the condition is known to still develop from trauma initially. We also have many of these types of alters in our system, and none of them have that same feeling of being one fractured part of our core personality or acting in any archetypal way, but rather actually seem much more fully functional like they have no core dissociation like that compared to our earlier members. While all systems are different and our experiences need not be universal or largely representative, we do find it notable that in our system, the earlier members actually also share a sense of personally identifying with the physical body, even though not entirely with another internally, but these later members are instead often "copies" of external people which in the community are known as introjects, and they instinctively act like those external people even though they are cognitively complex enough to fight those instincts and also personally identify with the body of the person they are copied from rather than the one we have. Essentially, they seem a lot like dream characters at their core programming but given the permanence required to development an intelligent and coherent consciousness and the ability to internally communicate and switch with the earlier system members just like they can with one another, and we feel that this is also an important observation because it still allows us to bring it back to the model you proposed despite this initial divergence; in this case, we feel that dream characters could also be basically thought of like those neuron clusters that become complex enough to have their own voice when given that processing power, and dreams prove it already, and again with the help of traumatic dissociation they could become even more developed. We also suspect that these system members may appear to be more neurologically "whole" in some ways than the earlier members essentially because their brain states are derived from our empathy systems attempting to reverse engineer what is happening in the brains of the people they are copied from for the sake of developing that individual-specific theory of mind drive you see running wild in dreams, and of course most of those other people do not also have that core dissociation and thus it's avoided. All theoretical obviously, but those are roughly our thoughts on it so far, but we're still pretty new to understanding that we even have this condition.

We very much appreciate you sharing your thoughts as well.
