Is it really necessary to do that if I want to have a good dream recal and maybe a good Lucid Dream? It seems a bit harmful for someone's sleep and probably causing stress and insomnia...?
Thanks.

it isn't necessary, no. you can build your recall up just as good if you only try to recall your dreams after you wake up (before you start your day). dreams get longer and more vivid as the night progresses, anyway. if you don't already, i would recommend keeping a journal, because that can really help your recall.
if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
oh, if you're interested, there's a tutorial on dream recall in the tutorials section here: (link)
Sometimes it's good for people to begin improving their recall by this method. But i think i'm right in saying that the dream recall tutorial states that this method should only be used until you are recalling two dreams a night. I think it's meant as a jumpstart, and not a long term thing.
I know i've been known to use it when my recall has taken a nosedive.
I've found that if I wake up immediately after I've had a dream I can remember the whole dream almost crystal clear, at that point I can wright it down and go back to sleep. Then the next dream I would have would be easier for me to recognise it was a dream. The one time that this happend to me (I started 3 days ago) I woke up 3 times after each dream and then the last dream I experienced lucidity. Now the 2 days after that I slept straight through the night because I had little to no sleep so I didn't wake up between dreams and I don't remember any of my dreams and never became lucid.
I woken up once remembering a dream since I used autosuggestion 'I will wake up after every dream/REM period' , and woken up 5 times with no DR. I guess it could improve your overall DR if you would write it down, but it isn't nessacairy. If you like to sleep, just sleep ^__^
Phew, hehe I'm a bit lazy ^_^ I like to jump on bed and not worring about waking up later =D I'll just have to improve my DR.
Hooray!
