What do you suggest is the most sufficient and best reality check?
I've always used the "Plug your nose and try to breathe," method.
reading a small paragraph, looking away, and re-reading is the most foolproof for myself.
I've had consistant success testing objects for solidity.
I press my thumb firmly into a solid object, E.G. a tabletop, a tree trunk, a wall, or whatever is convenient. If I am dreaming, I will feel my thumb penetrating the object, much like pressing into a ball of clay.
Give it a try!
I, personally, use the "plug your nose" technique, but there's a tutorial in the Tutorials forum that has a bunch of ideas. Pretty much every idea I've heard is in there and if there's something new, we'll be sure to add it as soon as it is brought to our attention.
Everyone's different so different things work for different people. Just try some stuff out and find what works. The biggest thing with RCs is following up on the results. Rather than just shrugging it off if you decide you're not dreaming, focus and specifically tell youself, "I am not dreaming right now." That way if you do an RC and you find that you are dreaming, you won't shrug it off and kick yourself later.
