Weird first experience

Yesterday I had a weird first experience, tough I have had several lucid dreams before, yesterday was the first ime I started reading bout them while I wasn´t intentionally trying to induce one last night I guess reading so much abou thtme had some effect...... had a weird experience I´ve not had before......

I had one of those feelings that ur head is spinning and u feel like ur being suctioned those usually end with me waking up coughing, this time around however I coudl look onto my celing and I saw like skulls benig reflected on it I realized that I was eventually to wake up coughing so I decided to better step up and go to pee first, I did but while walking my head was still peeing and I could still see the skulls on the ceiling, when I got to the bathroom and turned on the light on the spinning stopped, did reality checked and I was perfectly awake.....

Later on the night I dreamt bout the same thing but this time after looking at the schools at the celing just waked up and they weren´t there......

If I'm reading this right, it sounds like you had an Out-of-body experinece. But kind of backwards. Normally in an OOBE you see yourself asleep. In your case it sounds like you normal body got up to pee, while your dreaming body stayed in bed looking at the ceiling.

Well, you were in two places at the same time. That would certainly make both my heads spin.

Don't listen to that guy. You don't have two bodies. While you're dreaming, your real body is paralyzed and unable to move. Nightly trips happen in deeper phases of sleep, NOT while you are dreaming. Are you sure that you were 100% awake? Usually False Awakenings and Out-of-body-experiences are a lot more real than your usual lucid dream and single reality checks might fail easily. Have you done multiple, checked if everything in your bath was in it's correct place and so on? If you were awake, I guess you shouldn't worry too much for this time... Have you ever taken any type of halluscinogenic or psychodelic drug? If not, how real were the halluscinations? Could you control them. If it happens again and nobody has better advice, I guess you could as well ask someone who knows a bit more than your average internet forum member.

I'm very skeptical about out-of-body experiences, personally. This may have been a false awakening (because sometimes reality checks fail), but it also could just have been a residual effect of sleep. Maybe you woke up for some reason while in a deeper sleep phase and that can cause grogginess and other feelings sometimes. The skulls seem like an example of "hypnopompic imagery" where you are still seeing images after waking up.

This imagery is related to "hypnogogic imagery," which consists of images that one might see while falling asleep. HI (hypnogogic imagery) is often experienced when trying to WILD and can consist of random shapes, flashes of light, or random images. I wouldn't worry unless it continues to occur for a while.

ferthepoet: I’ll admit I’m having a little trouble understanding exactly what happen to you. The first time you “woke up and went to pee” do you remember actually going into the bathroom, peeing, flushing the toilet, etc.?

I don’t get the feeling you are particularly worried about this dream; you are just trying to understand what happened. Ultimately the understanding you arrive at will be the one you decided on, not what anyone else says.

I’ve had many LDs and a couple of OOBEs. The OOBEs did not feel like Lucid Dreams but I had had enough LDs that I knew what was happening. Whatever happened to you, you will figure it out eventually to your satisfaction.


Now, Korittke: You are certainly entitled to your own opinion, and I guess that should include being free to disagree with another point of view, like mine. There are many people who, having heard about Lucid Dreaming, will vehemently deny that any such thing is possible. These are usually people who have never had a Lucid Dream. And there is a lot of discussion that goes on about the “truth” of OOBEs. And it is usually the people who have never had one that have “other” explanations for what has occurred.

There is a delicate balance in maintaining your own point of view and yet allowing others to have different opinions. Is it possible the universe could be operating differently for different people, or is there only one way?

It doesn't have anything to do with "point of view". It's a matter of whether or not what you say is possible or makes sense at least. What you proclaim could have happened it totally impossible. You're in sleep paralysis while you're in a dream, so obviously you will not run around, especially not consciously. All you said is non-sense and impossible, and that's not my point of view, that's a fact. And no, the universe doesn't work different for different people, that's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard in a debate. If this argument would have any validity, everyone could use it as they wish and soon enough this world would be going down the drain because of ignorant shitheads interpreting life like it was some stupid super market novel. I'm really sick of indoctrinated people like you who grew up with no scientific education and now go all pissy about their spiritual ways. There are loads of scientific researchers who had OOBEs, I did, others from this forum did, LaBerge did, Tholey did. None of them believe that OOBEs are real because it's just a plain stupid thing to assume.

Might I ask how old you are? What happened to you sounds like a "night terror" or "sleep terror." They are more common in children, but have been known to happen to a number of adults as well. They happen in non-REM sleep, however the images seen are just as convincing. There is no sleep-paralysis holding your body down during these occurances, and many people have actually injured themselves, severly, trying to escape the horrifying images that have seemed to transition from sleep to awakening. I once saw a news cast about a teenage girl with night terrors so bad, that her family has to secure all of the doors and windows in the house while she sleeps, and take turns keeping watch over her. Before they'd done this, during one of her night terror episodes, she got out of bed, ran to her patio door, trying to escape the images, and jumped off the second floor balcony. She was still "asleep," but so terrifyied that, even though she broke something when she hit the ground (forgot what it was) she got to her feet and ran into the woods screaming, where her folks found her, later. The only thing strange about your situation is that you didn't seem particularly terrified, and night terrors are usually balls-to-the-wall Horrifying, however I think it is a good chance that it was the same sort of event.

thanks to everyone for your insights...... I´m 22 to be honest I wasn´t particulary afraid of the skulls at the moment of the dream as my head was spinning with many toughts at once and didn´t have time to think much of them, I´m certain I was awake after I turned the lights of the bathroom on... What I don´t know is what state I was on while walking from my bed to the bathroom, it certainly felt a bit like being drunk except that I hadn´t had any drinks or drugs
