Lol good question :D i think its conious that ur dreaming cause it doesnt only feel vivid but its like real but then its like a dream but then its feels like real real, like u wake up and know its a dream, but its like real, not just vivid. hard to explain lol and welcome to Dreamviews :D
My idea of lucidity is that you are aware that you're dreaming. So you know that you're really laying in bed, sleeping and dreaming. You also know that you can do anythng you want in your dream and it won't matter because you're dreaming - and that's where good dream control comes in. Just because you're lucid doesn't mean you'll have an easy time controlling the dream. Hope that helps!
As a newbie, I also had the same doubt. But when I started to have my lucid dreams, I understood that it is being conscious, while you dream. It is not at all dreaming that you are dreaming lucidly. I am sure that you will understand it soon. Its hard to explain.Quote:

The definition of lucid dreams refers to consciousness during dreams.. being conscious that you're dreaming. It's interesting though to think about it the other way too.
Dreaming that you're conscious... an interesting example of dreaming that you are conscious would be believing that you are awake (as in a normal non-lucid dream), doing a reallity check but still be convinced that you are awake. :)... in fact I think.... dreaming that you are conscious would be exactly having a non-lucid dream :D
Do you have lucid dreams ?Quote:

What you've just said there sounds exactly like a false awakening, where you wake up in the dream, but are actually convinced you are awake, because your reality checks failed!Quote:

By the way, welcome to DV!
the phrase "dreaming that you are conscious would be exactly having a non-lucid dream" is one i have thought about quite abit, and concluded it is never possible to know whether one is dreaming or not.Quote:

you could be an indescribable alien entity, and the entire life you remember having experienced could be a single dream, including the universe's physical laws, time, space, and everyone and everything you have ever known....only awareness can be a stable link between all points on the continium between dreaming and reality.
as others have mentioned, almost every lucid dreamer has experienced a 'false awakening' (FA), where they have a lucid dream, believe they have woken up, but are still in fact dreaming and do not realize it until later.
and as a somewhat relevant sidenote, it is interesting that tibetan buddhists (who perfected the art of lucid dreaming hundreds of years ago) essentially view all of life as a dream. there are simply different degrees to them. it is actually a very interesting excercise in cognition and perception to experiment with this worldview for a day or two...and is a very valuable tool to induce lucid dreaming. :)
When I have what I believe to be a LD I know 100% that I am sleeping. my mind is as clear as if i was awake . I know where I was sleeping and who was sleeping next to me when I went to sleep .
You don't necesarilly have to have a false awakening to do a reallity check and fail it... you can do it at any point in a dream and fail.. or you can be lucid and still not observe all the weird elements in the scenery...
I had an LD a week ago in which I was in my room, next to the computer.. I rubbed my hands in order to maintain the dream and to see if the sensation would be as in reallity... I didn't observe though that my monitor was not in the place it should have been.. in fact I observed nothing that could have been a dream sign... I still don't know what triggered lucidity then...
The ideea that the reallity is a dream or that we are in fact some alien entity dreaming seems like a nice fantasy about life.. but should stay a fantasy in order to maintain mental health... once you are not sure what is real and what is not you are on the edge of insanity.. you should always have it clear in your mind.. what's real and what is not...
And if we are in fact alien entities taking a nap... wonder when will the lucid dreaming set in.. and what would happen then :) :P
