the new guy
that's me. i'm the new guy to lucid dreaming. never tried, and can't wait to. i've read over the tutorials and all that, and am planning on trying it (WILDing) tonight for the first time. i can't convey to you how psyched i am, but i'm trying to relax and not be so excited. a school night may not be the best night to try it, so i'm going to sleep earlier than usual so i can get that 5-6 hour inital sleep in.

Hey "thunderstruck521". Welcome to the dreamviews site. It's all fun and games here. Theres plenty of levels of lucid dreamers on here. I've been trying for about a year now and have been lucid dreaming for about 3 months. Its quite exciting, even to this day I still share your excitement. Have fun and dont be afraid to ask questions. You can also put yourself up for adoption and talk directly to a more experienced user if you want. Enjoy.

Before you WILD make sure you have a pen and paper by your bed to write it down, I cant tell you how many times I have forgotten dreams before! Also, I would love to read about your experience even if there is none, start a dream journal!

well, i tried it. i got 5 hours of sleep, woke up at 3:30, stayed awake for 20 minutes, and then tried to WILD. i started seeing very faint clouds of color, and then my body started to tingle all over. i got nervous, and quit trying. *sigh* : i'm planning on trying again tonight though. the interesting thing though is that i was looking at these forums during break in my third block class, and the guy beside me goes "dude, lucid dreaming rocks". turns out he's been doing it for three months.

I'm new to this forum, but I have been having lucid dreams my whole life. I have perfected my OWN science to it, and I'm not sure how much it coincides with other people's ways, but I can definately say this...
Don't get bored, or frustrated if it doesn't work right. It will, I promise.
I get my best results if I wake up early in the morning, then get up for about a half hour or an hour, and then lay back down.
I lay, and I imagine an object. JUST the object. But I imagine every detail about it. I run my hand across it in my head. I usually think about a chair. I don't stop thinking about it, until I can see it. Usually, within less than a minute, I realize that I can see the object. That is when I look around, to see what is around me.
When you are dreaming, you are ONLY limited by what you BELIEVE you can do, the extent of your imagination, and the deepness of the lucid state.
Don't try to fly. Don't try to walk through a wall. Just do it. KNOW that you can do it. Try not to even think about it. EXPECT it to work right... and remember, you CAN do anything. No matter WHAT it is, you can do anything in a dream. It's doubt that sometimes stops me. That's when I have to catch myself, and say, 'Oh yeah! I CAN do it. I forgot.'
Keep trying. I promise it will happen. Don't try to force it. When you do get there, just explore it, and enjoy it. Don't try to rush around and do everything you've wanted to do at once. You get too excited that way, and your imagination becomes limited. Just look at the things around you. Notice how real everything looks/feels.

Oh... also... describe this tingling...
...you may be feeling the vibrations that come with out of body experiences. I've never had one, but I've felt the "vibrations" MANY times. To me it sounds like static, and it overwhelms me at times. Try to describe this tingling...

When I do it without sleep first I get the vibrations. It is like the whole room around me is shacking up and down from my spot. The best way I describe it is like the front of a plane propeller, that motion of it going so fast on the sides you can see it. It comes in waves. Do you get waves? Some nights I get 2 waves, other nights I get 6. I have yet to do a WILD, let alone without sleep first.

It absolutely comes in waves. For me, they seem to be faster paced, since you seem to be able to count yours. Also, if you completely relax, and let it come, it will take over your mind, and your body will begin to jerk around a lot. It's hard to stay at that point, because it's such an unnatural feeling.
When I was a child, I just found this sensation to be annoying. I didn't know what it was, and I didn't care. I used to have to FIGHT it to get it to go away. It would keep me up at night. I used to have to sit up in bed, for about five minutes, before trying to go back to sleep, just to get it to go away.
It happened a lot more often back then though. :(
Now I'm always trying to envoke it. I haven't figured that part out yet. lucid dreams are one thing, but the vibrations have always kind of come on their own.
But, I keep trying. :)

I actually like the tingles :)
I've had some pretty crazy things happen when I'm trying to WILD. I've never successfully had a WILD, but it's sure fun trying. The tingling, and vibrations are pretty strange, but cool. The hardest part for me is when it hits the REM stage of going to sleep and my eyes are going crazy, it's hard to keep my eyes shut. Also my heart starts to race just before going to sleep which also makes it hard to keep calm. I don't mean to sound like a pervert either, but I always seem to get an erection right about the same time that my heart starts to race, which is always distracting.
One day I hope to achieve a WILD. So far it's mostly just been DILD, and WBTB's.

Gosh. It sounds like you've really tried hard, and with what you're describing, I don't know why you HAVEN'T had a WILD! I've never actually felt my eyes going crazy, or felt the effects of REM. That's crazy. I'm not sure what you are doing wrong.
