      dream vividness

ive been interested in lucid dreaming to varying degrees for four years or so, and recently i began to get quite serious about it. but im very worried about the vividness of my dreams. i have almost no sense of awareness of anything, and while my dreams are in first person, its more like watching it on a small tv. difficult to see detail, flat, and beyond hearing and seeing, my senses are totally absent otherwise im wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this problem, and how it might be helped, or how to work around it. oh, and ive never had a lucid dream.

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

Try to use the absence of your senses as a reality check, that should really help you get started in the LDing. Also, have you checked out the Tutorials yet? They will help you get started, as well as starting a DJ!

      Hey Kosti,

From what I understand you're saying that your dreams are not vivid enough? Dream vividness doesn't really guarantee a lucid dream. Usually the "realness" of a dream will kick in at the onset of lucidity. Still, if you want to simply have more vivid dreams just so you can get more fulfillment or joy out of them, then you might try eating certain foods before bed which can effect your dreams. There are supplements and vitamins as well, but I would try starting out simple first.

I'm not which sure foods will have which effect, but that is something worth looking into. I know that cheese has been mentioned here before. It could be that foods high in fat which require your digestive system to work harder my have something to do with it. Again, I'm not sure.

Either way, keeping a dream journal (DJ) and consistently recording your dreams will help you remember your dreams in more detail - which you may start to find that you're already having vivid dreams, you're just not remembering all the details.

Tornado is right, normally dreams only get extremely vivid when your lucid, but ive had vivid dreams that seemed so real that i performed a reality check and i psyched myself out, and put fake phsyical barriers which werent there. A few tips would be, become very aware of different textures and shapes certain things make... Anything just pay attention to detail. This may help you learn to create more detailed dreams by habit, even if its not lucid.

As for sounds and other senses, just heighten your senses. Every day, try to hear everything you are really hearing, rather than naturally tuning out some things... Listen to different frequencies and notes that any sound can make. Over analyze food, the taste the texture and the feeling it gives you when you eat it. Once you start doing this is your everyday life for a while, it may help you alot. It all depends on you though.
