A friend just told me about Lucid Dreams and how someone increase the chances of getting one. Well, what i want to know is, what problems can occur from lucid dreams. Like are there any long term effects or short term ones.
-Thanks in advance

Hi Liquid,
If you're asking about physical effects there really can't be any - lucid dreams are still dreams. In fact, some believe that with some control in lucid dreams one can learn or practice a physical skill (such as playing tennis or dancing). Furthermore, healing of physical conditions is also believed to be possible.
As for mental effects, again I can only say that the same would apply. While nightmares can cause anxiety and fear, in lucid dreams one can overcome the fear or "monster" in the dream to rid themselves of the nightmare. Realizing your in a dream gives one the freedom to express themselves and achieve feats otherwise impossible in waking life while not risking any harm to themselves.
yeah, the only cosequence is having a hella good time :D
The only consequence I can think of, is loosing sleep because you might wake yourself up in the middle of the night to remember your dreams, or do a WILD, WBTB. etc. But no, other than that, no consequences. The idea that there ARE consequences is rather strange, totally unfounded, and popularly held, though, and that's something that has always bothered me. My dad told me the same thing when I told him about lucid dreaming... "be careful" etc etc. I think I know where the fear comes from, but, I wanna do some more research... I THINK it has something to do, historically, with the church... I'm not sure when it dates back to though...
I suppose, the worst I can think of, is halucinations in the daytime? Maybe? I'm not sure, but it could be possible.
Absolutely not! Flashbacks can occur with high dosages of shrooms and acid, but definitlynot with LDs.Quote:

Well technically you are thinking about it in a limited way. You do not know 100% that it wont happen. It could, since everyone experiences it in a different way.
Well in that case, the antichrit could as well come back on 6.6.06 ;)
Seriously, i didn't ask everyone on this planet if they had hallucinations from LDs, but it's very very unlikely, It's not like your brain chemistry is messed up after you LD...
I know, I entirely agree with you. However we must have an open mind.
yeah i definatley agree that you could lose sleep, dude i lost a ton of sleep, but that was because i was obsessive about getting a lucid dream. and that made it even longer. just stay off the drugs and calm down... it will come.
ya but dude if i was getting into lucid dreaming and i just read that i'd be hella scared! and there is a 0% chance of it happening if he is mentally stable.Quote:

I suppose there is always the chance you will become obsessed with your "dream world" and have no desire to live in the normal world, but I do not know of that every happening. But like someone said, Im sure if you are mentally stable its cool.
