Hey there and welcome to the forum!

Well, I guess keeping a dream journal isn't exactly necessary for lucidity (since some people do it "naturally" without doing anything at all), but I guarantee it will help your dream recall, and help you recognize common dreamsigns and scenarios which will in turn help you become lucid.

Good luck on your attempt tonight, but just know that if you've never had an LD before, it will probably take more than a couple tries to pull it off. Some people can do it in days, others weeks, and others months. It just depends on you.

Yes, exactly. Keep a pad of paper and a pen within quick reach of your bed. As soon as you wake up, quickly jot down any keywords, sentences, feelings, etc that you can remember. Get as much as you can down on paper because the memories will fade extremely quickly. Later, if you want, you can write down the dream in it's detailed entirety in a different journal. For example, I jot down notes on scrap paper as soon as I wake up, then record the full, detailed dream in a Word document on my computer.

      Do whatever works for you.

My favorite RC is comparing a wall clock to my wristwatch. The times never match when I'm dreaming, therefore, I become lucid. Clocks is a common RC for people, especially digital clocks, because usually the times will appear all screwed up in a dream, which is a great opportunity to become lucid. This doesn't work for everyone, though - again, do what work for you.
