Hey there, being a beginner and all - I wasn't sure if people plan their dreams before they actually go to sleep. I suppose this is directed at the more experienced LD'ers? I know what I want to dream about, but I wasn't sure if there was any preperation I could take -- or if in my LD's I would just 'go with the flow' so to speak.
I just go with the flow. I've tried dream incubation, but I like to see where my mind takes me.
And welcome to the forum, by the way! :)
I was also wondering, Would dream planning help with maintaining lucidity or maybe even attaining lucidity since you would have a goal or more motivatio?
I've often found that if I try to plan my dreams, I dream about something completely different. I tend to have more lucid dreams if I go to sleep tired and with an empty mind. Planning tends to overstimulate me and keep me awake. I've found that if I read a book when I'm really tired, then go to sleep, I will have a dream about the book, or something that's happened in it.
I've found that visualising normal places (eq my bedroom, out in the paddock, laying on a hill looking at the clouds etc) and thinking of nothing but taking in every detail of that place, it keeps too many thoughts from my head and I fall asleep easier.
I try not to go to the dreams, I let the dreams come to me :wink:
Hehe I too am a beginner. I have not managed to LD yet but I WILL. Anyhow I have plans yes. I don't lie in bed at night just completely planning it out however, because I do want there to be a "magic" to it. I think planning it out completely might be counterproductive, however having an intent of what you want to do probably isn't a bad thing. I know where I want to be, and who I want to be there. From there I want it to flow. Thinking too much might undermine you though, I don't know. In the end we are all unique. What works for me might not work for you. Some people can incubate dreams, that is basically convince their minds to dream about one thing or another through various techniques. I have not attempted this, so I cannot speak of it. Also its important to note that you don't have to initially BE there, you can be somewhere else and go there, through spinning or the like.

Yeah, I will go with the flow for now but there's no doubt that I have some things that I want to try out in my dreams.

By manifesting a well thought out dream scene, preemptively you can eventually establish a stable starting point, I guess you would call it.
I for example have created a place in my mind. As I become lucid a dreamscene that is much like a desk from that of a hotel. From there, it is as if I can choose what scenario I would like to create. A place! :wink:

For me the, only Lucids i've had thus far have been DILDS, meaning no conciouss effort before I go to bed to induce a lucid dream, and therefor meaning I don't plan out my dreams, but I acutally do... more or less, I say what i'd like to do in a dream and than usually remember that when in a dream.
