As far as how long it takes you to learn to lucid dream.. some people can do it naturally, some people take a couple of weeks, some take a couple of months. It is absolutely normal for you to not have one for a month though.
Lucid dreams will not affect the real world directly, although I have heard that it can affect the way you view the world, which could indirectly affect the world in a sense. You can also use lucid dreaming to help you overcome a problem in the waking world, so that's another way that it might affect you. Just keep at it, keep a dream journal, and enjoy yourself. Dream control is something that will come with time after you learn to lucid dream a bit more fluently. :coolspot:
