Standard Intro Stuff

Hi, I'm Mike and I'm an alcoh...sorry, wrong forum.

I'm brand new to this and very interested in learning all there is to lucid dreaming. I've looked around a little already and this looks like an awesome site for gathering info and sharing experiences.

Anyways, I look forward to (hopefully) sharing some lucid dreams with you all.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to post those links for me - much appreciated!

I am SO excited about the possibility of initiating LD at will. I had this happen to me a couple of times when I was a kid (in a galaxy far, far, away...). But, I started researching this again recently and am very excited about the possibility of controlling my dreams again. The only problem, was that when I was younger the LD always occured during a nightmare and I could never quite get control of the dream (even though I was cognizant that I probably was dreaming - probably being the operative word for an eight year old).

Anyways, thanks again for the hospitality. This site is AWESOME!

Well, for those keeping score at home, I wanted to let you know that I started on step 1 this morning - keeping a dream journal. It's actually quite interesting to write out what you were dreaming. As you go through the motions of jotting stuff down, more facts come to you. Very cool.

I had one dream where I was in an interview for an investment analyst position. Normally, I would be nervous, because these are always tough. But, for some reason, I was not nervous at all during the dream (something in me "knew" there was no need to be). It's weird, because I couldn't control anything, heck I'm not 100% sure I knew I was LDing, but I definitely knew that there were no repercussions to my actions during the interview. It was more of a feeling really. This last part did not come to me until later this morning. I wonder if I was LDing, but I can't recall the rest.

As an aside, this is flippin awesome. I literally see a whole world opening up to me that I didn't realize existed, umm, as of yesterday.

Yeah definitely - I love going back through my DJ from a few years ago. If I hadn't writen those dreams down - they would've been lost and forgotten - but when I read them again, it all comes flooding back and I can recall every detail! It's really cool.

It would only be considered a LD if you knew you were dreaming. Maybe it was a very low level if you knew there were no repercussions of your actions, but it's hard to say for sure.

You're probably right. Not quite LD yet. But, I can feel that I'm just scratching the surface right now. I'm usually a pessimistic person by nature, but for some reason I have no doubt that I will be LDing soon enough.

I'm doing RCs like crazy by the way. Hopefully this will translate over to when I'm dreaming...

You can also try staying "aware" as long as you can when going to sleep, or saying "I'm going to LD", if you want. That worked for me once, one second I was in bed the other I was dreaming. Quite cool :D .

Hi Bonsay,

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go later tonight. It seems that staying aware and falling asleep are pretty conflicting actions. Did you find this hard to do?

Actually I did it by accident, it was really really hot and I just didn't mentally fall asleep, my mind was wandering and when I took a look at the situation I noticed that I'm not in bed anymore- LD...
It's the same idea the WILD technique uses - basically staying aware utnill your body falls asleep. So you experience the whole transition from waking to the dream state. I haven't induced a LD like this yet, I just had an accidental one again :P .

Interesting. I'm going to have to do some more research and get these terms down (WILD, DILD, MILD, etc.)
