Yes, Alcohol does affect lucid dreaming. It affects it negatively. It affects dream recall specifically badly, and if you have lucid its likely not to be very vivid.
I'm just here to emphasize ExoByte's answer.
Bad, bad, bad.
I don't know if this is your case, but most I know have trouble
remembering the night of drinking, let alone their dreams afterwards!
Plus, I'm sure you know the damage it's doing to your body,
lucid dreaming aside.
:(
Hi cptamazing :) Welcome to the forum. There have been many threads made on alcohol and its effects on dreaming and lucid dreaming - the search function can help you locate these threads. Alcohol usually has negative effects on dreaming, especially dream recall - which means that even if you had a cool experience while being under the influence (which is unlikely), you probably wouldn't be able to remember it anyway.
Is my post invisible or something? :?
:bigteeth:
Hello ledzeppelin, we here at Jokes inc. would like to welcome you to the wonderful world of Sarcasm. Its this wonderous, thunderous, prosperous world, where everyone lives happilly in green fields with Bunny Rabits and Sunflowers under a rainbow with dancing lepricauns.
Thanks for your answers and excuse my bad spelling before, i actually had a few drinks before i posted that message lol. I've only ever had 1 lucid dream that lasted all of 10 seconds; since i joined this site about June last year but i stopped trying for ages but now im interested again. Im planning on trying a WILD tonight as i've never tried this technique before. The 1 lucid dream i had before was a DILD after about a week of reality checks and dream journal'ing. Just want to enthesis the fact that although my lucid dream only lasted about 10 seconds it was a great experience i i hope for a longer version of it next time:P
I once got so drunk that the police found me walking around some neighborhood at 2 a.m. and got me to the emergency room. In the emergency room, I was so drunk that I thought I was at a picnic. It was like I was dreaming.
If you smoke pot on a regular basis, you are going to have to make a choice between pot smoking and lucid dreaming. I can't seem to put down the bong for very long. That is why I am a "lucid screwoff" when I have gone through periods of higher LD status. Drugs and lucid dreaming don't mix.
:offtopic:
Not really... how do you figure?
Bah,
All that crap about bullying and such,
had nothing to do with alcohol.
That was what i was referring to
Well those types of posts are very normal on this forum. Those types of posts are actually a big part of this forum. Since your new, I won't get on your case very much for now, but I strongly suggest you get used to it, cause you'll see it a lot
See what a lot?
:/
Teh Uber Leet Offtopic-ness
roryflyguy by posting your 'off topic' smiley you have managed to completely derail this thread and sparked a whole new conversation that has taken over ;P
As for alchohol I usually pass out and then wake up with absoltuely no recollection of what happened in between... although the other night I did pass out and vaguely remembered about 10 seconds of 2 seperate dreams... Last night, my first sober night since new years eve I was able to recall 10 dreams... :-D
Usually nights where im drunk I just say screw it im not going to remember any dreams anyway. And with pot smoking I have a higher dream recall than with alchohol but its still fairly low.
Damm.
Lol
Smoking pot?....
Is there anybody here that dosen't do drugs?!?!?!?!?!?!?
And how many people are still teenagers? Excluding me?
Me, to both. There are quite a few teens here actually.
I think there needs to be a distinction between what kind of drinking we're talking about. If you mean getting drunk, I agree that you probably wont remember much at all including any dreams. However, if you mean casual drinking, say 1 or 2 drinks (but depends on your tolerance,) I don't think it affects LDs or recall that much, at least not for me. Part of the reason may be because LDs tend to happen early in the morning after the effects of the alcohol wear off.
Thanks again for the replies & yeah i am a teen im 18. as for pot, i dont smoke it. I see it did go off-topic abit lol so ill do it some more. Ive recently been attempting to WILD but no luck at all realy. I was doing that breath counting thing but i must have been there for like an hour with no luck at all, i eventually gave up and just fell asleep...
Thought I'd add my own two cents, somewhat contrary to Kev's.
Alcohol on the whole has a negative effect on dreaming in general. HOWEVER. There are two ways in which it can help, in a roundabout way. Both ways have to do with the idea of "REM rebound" meaning that, if you sleep for a certain time without REM (such as by taking alcohol, which kills REM), when you next sleep, you will get a rebound effect, and have longer REM periods. So, two ways you can use alcohol:
Take a small amount, a glass of wine say, before bed. That way it will kill your first few REM periods, and in the latter part of your sleep, you might get REM rebound and therefore more vivid dreams.
Or, after a heavy night out, you go to sleep and get no REM. The NEXT night, you will hopefully get REM rebound in that second night.
In my experiuence, this REM rebound effect is erratic at best and not reliable as an effective method. You're way better off just not drinking too much if you want to get the most out of your dreams.
