Hey everyone, as you've probably guessed this is my first interaction with this website. As I'm new to the concept of lucidity, I thought I'd introduce myself whilst asking a few questions.

I was first introduced to the concept of lucid dreaming in a Psychology class, and I decided to investigate further. I recently discovered this website a few days ago and its design piqued my interest. My reasons for exploring lucid dreaming (and ultimately dream control) is for recreation and creativity. I have a knack for writing, and I'd like to see what a hyper-active imagination can do.

I've read some of the basic information on the main page and a few threads on the message boards here, but I still have a couple questions.

Firstly, what is the purpose of first developing dream recall? I understand that it helps you to remember your dreams, but does that aid directly in experiencing lucidity?

On a related note, how do you go about remembering more than one dream each night? At most I can recall one upon waking, but I've read that others can recall three or four. Is this accomplished by waking periodically throughout the night, or all at once?

Thirdly for those who have experienced lucidity, do you actually have sensory awareness during a lucid period? Aside from sight, do have a tactile response?

This was one of my reasons to start with too. I found that my non-lucid dreams had plenty imagination in them already when I started recording them. My problem (apart from struggling to attain lucidity) is that I'm battling to string the separate ideas together. Hopefully I can get a common idea when I LD! Dream recall helps you remember your lucid dreams! (fairly important one would say) Also, while developing dream recall by using a dream journal, you can begin to recognise dream signs, and using reality checks and those dream signs, attain lucidity.

Personally, I have 4 or 5 dreams in a night. I started out by setting my alarm for every 90 minutes and waking up to write them down. Nowadays, I wake up after a dream and write it down whether I have an alarm set or not (2 or 3 most nights, sometimes more, always at least one).

Note, however, that if I don't actually write anything down after a dream, no matter how clear it is in my head, if I go back to sleep I can't remember a thing about it when I wake up. I know I dreamed, but thats it.

As for that one, I've only attained low-level lucidity so I'm only vaguely aware of a sensory awareness (other than sight). Hopefully someone else can clear that up!

Hello, welcome to the board!!!

The purpose of developing dream recall is in order to begin to see patterns in your dreams. These patterns which are usually something recurring within your dreams, such as a location, person or event, are known as dreamsigns.
When you see a dreamsign, it's supposed to jog you into realising that you could be in a dream. You then perform a reality check to supplement this information.
as to remembering more than one dream each night, it takes practise. You can accomplish it by waking through the night if you're able to do so, as this allows you to realise when your REM cycles are.

also, i've found in my lucid dreams that i have sensory input, i can feel things if i touch them...i find it's heightened though, and i'm more aware of things.
